Default How do you clean behind the steering wheel display screens? 997.2 - Pics Included

These little illumination panels that show the status of Sport/Sport Plus and Launch Control seem to have gathered some dirt / grime and I am unsure how to clean them. Was hoping someone had some suggestions.

I tried some air from the compressor without luck.

That almost looks like an issue with the material itself.

Seem to recall some people on RL got their wheels replaced under warranty that had similar issues.

My 2011 C4s had the same issue - little bubbles - de-lamination of the materials? - maybe due to sunlight/heat?

It's not age as my 2011 TTS does not have.

I've seen that exact same issue on every sport wheel on a 997 I've ever seen, mine included.
My guess is that it's a problem with the adhesive they used, and there won't be a fix.
I asked when I was looking about buying a CPO car back if the Porsche warranty would cover it, they said no, it's a wear/tear thing... that might just have been the service adviser I was talking to though.

With nearly all of these cars out of warranty I'm guessing that's a moot point through. If it really bothers you, ****** up a new wheel I'd say.

Damn. It doesn't bother me enough to merit a new wheel. Was just hoping it was something that could be addressed. Thanks everyone!

Yes it's a de-lamination issue unfortunately...

Was wondering the same thing. My 2011 Turbo S has this too.

I wonder if overlaying these with dark tint by some quality shop could save you from spending thousands on repairs. I just hope the backlight somewhat shines through the tint hehe.

There's no adhesive used to hold that plastic lens in place.

my guess is that something was sprayed on the plastic lens that doesn't sit well with the plastic, like windex or some other cleaner used by a wash or detailer that was cleaning the aluminum-look trim. Mine are perfect still, and nothing like that has ever come in contact with the lens. Again, just my guess.

Did you just pop it out? Can it be refitted securely?

Well, there's nothing easy about getting to it. You have to get there from the other side. I got that pic because I removed the aluminium-look wheel trim and replaced it with carbon fiber. It can certainly be done, but that steering wheel trim front is not made to be removed. I did a DYI on 6speed when I replaced mine. If you attempt it and want some help then PM me and I will try to help you.
