Default 997.2 Intercoolers

Hello Rennlisters,
I am thinking of upgrading the intercoolers on my 997.2 TTS. This is the current spec:
2012 TTS, 20k miles
Fabspeed headers, cats, x-pipe exhaust
IPD Y-pipe and Plenum, BMC air filter
Cobb Stage 2 tune

I am thinking of doing the intercoolers next, and a Stage 3 tune/custom tune. I have looked at the AMS, EVOMS, Champion, etc. I checked with Suncoast on the ones they offer, which are 997 GT2 models, but they are the same Porsche part number as what my car already has. This will mostly be a street/highway car, little actual track use, but I want to keep it current and exciting to me. What I've done so far has really perked it up, but why stop here? Any recommendations on what I should use? Should I even do this? I am thinking of going with the EVOMS kit once they come up with the proper hoses for my car, but am open to suggestion. Thanks!

DO88 big pack or Mar$ton. Lots of sidegrades and downgrades out there vs stock.

Is performance data available for these products that can scientifically tell you which product performs best in some standard set of tests?

997.2 stock ICs are pretty good, especially for a lightly modded street car just out having some fun doing 2, sometimes 3 gear pulls. If you’re wanting to step it up, I would go with AMS, or do88. Many record setting 997.2s run either of these systems with great success. I’ve yet to see any true, conclusive data that the drop in ICs from “tuner house”, et al are really much better than the stock .2 coolers. YMMV.

tinkerbill, unless you are tracking your car, the 997.2TT IC are the ticket for "our" climate/region. If you are boosting more than 1.6bars>>find a IC builder that uses the Marston or 5" Garrett cores.

ca86108, I bought a set of the do88 Big Pack intercoolers, they arrive tomorrow, 2-20, from Sweden, after purchasing them online only last Friday, 2-15. That's pretty amazing. So far $3,091 including shipping, probably be some duty on top of that.

Keep us posted on how the install goes and if you can feel in S.O.P. hp gains on long pulls.

Default Intercoolers installed

I had the do88 Intercoolers, GFB Diverter Valves, and Cobb MAP Sensors installed by Porsche of Minneapolis two weeks ago. They did some dyno tests for me, as they have an in-floor dyno at their shop. I do not have previous dyno numbers (stock, stage 2), but it pulled 581hp at the wheels, the fifth pull, and did 588 on an earlier pull. Pretty happy with that, but will do a custom tune at this point to smooth it out as much as possible, and maximize it at this point. That should be it!

I am looking at the AMS Garrett 5.5" intercoolers after what happened today with my 997.2 TT PDK coupe. Took car to get baseline dyno at Kozmic here in Houston - they have an AWD Mustang dyno. 458 HP/ 488 TQ. Lots of heat soak. Unfortunately I do not know what tune is on the car as previous owner was also unaware. There is a catless Kline exhaust on it without CEL which means there is a tune of some sort, but the dyno graphs are choppy so likely OTS tune. Will do intercoolers / turbos and Cobb PDK/ECU protune to smooth it out and get the most out of it for pump 93.

A couple of weeks ago, I did a 1/4 run using my Dragy. The car ran 132.6 mph with Just my Europipe Exhaust and the Cobb Stg.2 - 93 OTS Tune.

Using a very trusted / accurate HP calculator I've used many times over the year (and confirmed through dynos), that calculated 601 WHP

The DA was only 450 ish, as it was a cool night.

Did a few more runs the other day when it was hotter and DA was up a good bit and lost about 2 mph. So that should put it around the 580-585 range.

Not bad for exhaust & ots tune and all else stock.

Big Swole, I'd say that's very good for just a tune and mostly stock. My car pulled 581 - 588whp over several pulls on a Mustang Dyno with all my mods and a Cobb Stage 3-91 tune. I am planning on doing a custom tune through BeDesign in LA soon.

I have the AMS IC’s on my Turbo. I haven’t logged anything but coming from a B5 S4 with bigger turbos, IATs & heat soak are a killer for a car’s power. Upgraded ICs are a must if you run the car hard.

AMS IC’s are a direct fit and perfect match to the COBB PDK and Engine tune, along with a Europipe.

The car screams and I know it’s breathing and shifting optimally too.

Sam & Team are working on a custom one for me as well. Hoping they can extract a few more ponies out of it.
