Default Sudden Loss of Power: Gas Leak Sound on Boost?

Hey guys, have a 997.1 turbo, upgraded exhaust and ecu. Car drives like a dream, accelerates super hard without any issues ever.

Today took it out, and on boost at full throttle around 3500rpm it begins to make a hissing/leak sound, and the power deliver is nowhere near where it should be. Surely less power.

Drove the car home. No CEL, just major loss of power.

What could this be ? Also where exactly would I look to remedy this problem ? Could it be fixed myself assuming it's a boost leak depending on its location?

Thanks guys !

Boost leak, they're not uncommon. First thing to check is the hose that connects the y-pipe to the throttle body. Ensure that the hose seated properly on both ends, and that the gear clamps haven't slipped off.

Next, check the hoses & gear clamps on the other ends of the y-pipe, left and right side of the engine bay. They route down underneath the car but you can see the y-pipe connections from under the engine lid. Ensure they're seated properly, gear clamps right, etc...

Lastly, by putting the rear of the car on jack stands, you can lay on your back and see the hoses that connect to the intercoolers. Check them for same issues.

I think that's about the limit of what you can easily check without a hoist or more technical capabilities. Hopefully it's one of the hoses in the engine bay and a quick fix. My throttle body hose came off many times, no matter how many times I replaced the gear clamp. Replaced the hose and issue is fixed, oil residue had expanded the original hose and it would no longer seat correctly.

Good luck

Thank you so much for the response! Really appreciate it.

The problem is that that sleeve that combines the y pipe to the throttle body keeps coming off on wide open throttle no matter how many times I put it back on (I am no mechanic tho)

I removed the Y pipe completely, put the IPD plenum sleeve on the 82 mm GT3 TB, and attempted to tighten the clamp as much as possible. It still could go some more. Is is recommended to tight it as much as possible ? Should I get new clamps or wider clamps?

Literally every time I punch it after I re attach it comes off.

Your rubber sleeve is bad. There is residual oil that passes by the turbos and ends up in the throttle body over time, and this causes the rubber hose to deform, not allowing it to seat correctly onto the throttle body. High pressures then cause it to pop right off. I put new Porsche gear clamps on mine, tightened as much as possible, and it was still coming off of the throttle body.

The good news is this is an easy fix - you need a new y-pipe to throttle body rubber sleeve for about $150 at your local Pcar parts counter. Porsche part # 997-110-647-74. It comes with new gear clamps already installed on either end of it, no need to order separate gear clamps.

Hey everyone, about to complete the swap to ensure this never happens again.

Will my factory sleeve work if I swap that in ? Here is the part number.

997-110-647-72

Reason I ask is because the last two digits are 72 not 74 as suggested.

Thanks so much everyone.

71, 72, & 73 are all I see on my PDF of Porsche parts. The 72 has a remark for 08- (2008 & up models).

I do not see a 74 listed anywhere in this document named KAT 530 dated 12/07/2016.

I bet as long as it's listed for 2008 & up it would be fine, but the OP should check with the parts counter @ local porsche dealer. Here is my receipt from Porsche for this hose confirming the -74 part #:

Default Lost boost tonight

Lost boost tonight. Feels like the car lost boost completely, but the PSI still registers in low ranges. No codes.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Hey! Unfortunately, OP never followed up with if that was the confirmed issue / solution.

Thanks!

I know but you have to take the same steps to diagnose the boost leak regardless

I actually used Gorilla black duct tape and it’s perfect repair alternative then spending $175.00 on a depreciating asset.

Almost in all cases you will find a leak somewhere in the system.

Go for the obvious areas, first, namely the connections to the Y-pipe and the Throttle body. It sounds like whatever you will find will not be a full blown disconnect but a partial connection of one of the ducts.

Thanks! This seemed to be a subtle progression over the past couple months from full PSI and a "normal" boost sound, to diminished boost topping out at around 10 PSI and a whine, to now a blip to 5 PSI but no power on my last drive.

I am going to take it in to the shop...hoping anything found is covered under Fidelity warranty, and it needs a couple odds and ends to be sorted out (TPC has to constantly relearn, illuminated sill bulb is out, needs an alignment).

Thanks!

On drive to drop off at dealership the car had boost. Got it up to 10 psi before letting off.
