I may have the opportunity to get a 991.2 GT3 allocation at MSRP if I was willing to trade my 997.2 GT3 in. I'm having a really hard time with the decision. I absolutely love my 997 and know there will never be another car like it. However; the potential option to order a new one with a manual, built to my spec, and picked up in Germany has me really thinking. The trip alone would be the experience of a life time. I was hoping to see what some fellow owners thoughts were. At this point I'm stuck, not leaning either way.

If you had an RS I'd say keep it, but yours, like mine, is only a lowly GT3. I'd say trade it in for the new one. You can always get another 997 GT3 as they are easier to pickup than an RS.

Keep for now. Wait 2 years after release. Make more money out of it.

Why trade it now? Your car has a chance of appreciating while the new .2 will mostly go back to MSRP. There would be a lot of .2 laying around at that time.

If you can swing it keep both for a few months. You will know what you like better then. New 991.2 GT3 sounds pretty fantastic. Very happy with 997 but new GT3 seems to be the real deal

I'm pondering the same question, with a potential 991.2 allocation. Trade 997.2 GT3 (weekend runner) or the 991 targa 4S (my fav DD). I come up with a different answer every other day.
As is sometimes said around here...'first world problems'.

Thanks for the thoughts so far.

Since I would be getting it at MSRP, waiting for prices to come down a couple years down the road would only be beneficial if my 997 was worth substantially more at that time.

I don't have the option to keep both temporarily as the only way to get an allocation from my dealer is to trade in my 997. Plus owning ONE of these machines is maxing my wife's good graces to the limit.

I just sold my 997.1 GT3 and will be replacing it with a December production 991.2. Would have kept my old car indefinitely because of the 6 speed, Metzger, etc. but having the opportunity to spec.a 6 speed, 10 years newer with 500 HP and full warranty for a 50% premium was just too good to pass up. Some great memories, but not looking back.

They are and will drive like very different cars. You need to drive and see which you like better. Warranty and newness aren't even a factor for me. Car must have a "feel" that makes me want to keep it. Gt4 lasted 3 months in my garage. I do hope the 991.2 does better. .1 do not like. .1rs. Better. Nice.

My 991 GT3 lasted 3 months in my garage. And I waited 1 year for it to get delivered. The wait was fun but I just dont feel it.

I have to agree with that. Have a feel for the car. As you stated you will never find another 7.2 GT3 like the one you have so I would wait at least for the first year. And then dump the 7.2 in my garage when you are ready

All depend on your NB gt3 and condition. If your lowly MINT gt3 has under 1-5k miles and spec out nicely w/bucket etc. i say keep it. Million dollar question is can you really go out and replace or pick one up over night?

to OP, sounds like you want the 991.2 so go do it. i say it depends a lot on what they will give you for trade-in.

Ordered a 991 GT3 and waited 9 months to get it. Great car but something was missing. Added a 997.1 GT3 (LWFW and SW bypass) before selling the 991. Knew within minutes of driving it- was the most fun car I'd ever driven.

Had both for 6 months. Sold the 991 after 1000 miles and added 997.2 3RS. Newer car wasn't fun on the street. Manual would have helped, but marginally. Even with manual my decision would have been the same. Looks and feels big (only slightly bigger but looks/feels larger than it measures). Older car feels more special, more of a hot rod. Around 415 HP is perfect amount of power for street IMO. For track, 991 is clearly superior but you give up a lot of what makes the 911 a 911.

Whichever direction you go, definitely should go to Germany. Take the factory tour (make appointment in advance) and spend 3-4 hours at the museum. You will appreciate the older stuff even more.
