Default Need advise asap - 2007 VS 2010 GT3

Hello all, I am new to this forum and to a lot of the Porsche lingo as well so my apologizes in advance. I have been a long time fan of the GT3 and have finally made a decision to buy one. My purpose of buying one are for investment, enjoyment, weekend driving and waking up in the morning knowing my garage contains a GT3 in it. I have to make a decision by tomorrow morning between a white 2007 GT3 with 25k on it and a 2010 GT3 white with 15k on it. The 2010 has about 22,000 in options (e.g. ceramic brakes) from the orig base price bringing it to about 140k sticker. Not so sure about the 2007. Both have clean rev reports and have passed the pdi inspection tests. The 2007 has steel brakes and does need new rotors soon but has new tires. The 2007 also has a rollcage and has been tracked very lightly, but again has a clear rev report. The 2010 needs new tires but everything else checks out. So its between the 997.1 (2007) and the 997.2 (2010).

The 2007 I have them at 84k

The 2010 I have them at 102k

Can anyone out there chime in and give me there opinions overall, engine/performance, everyday driving, investment, price difference (is it worth spending the extra 15k)?

Any help would be appreciated as I was planning on wiring funds to buy one of these by tomorrow mid day.

Thank you
J

Plenty of threads you can search to get a great idea of your questions.

Either will be great I am sure.

You do not mention if you will track the car. I've owned both and prefer the 997.2
It seems just a bit easier on the everyday or around town driving. I do like the ceramic brakes for that use.
Center lock wheels are a consideration as well.
Many threads on this .....great choice, get one.

For me the 997.1 is a bit more raw. Suspension, clutch, tranny and of course exhaust. Not a daily driver if your commute is beyond 12 miles. Mine doesn't even have Bluetooth. Can you drive either?

Thanks, I cant test drive either, they are down south, Im up north.

Not looking for much of a commuter as this would be a 3rd vehicle of mine so no big deal there.

Im not looking to track it, just take it out every few weekends here and there and after a few years hopefully turn a profit or break even.

Drive both, you'll know the answer. For me it was 997-2 all the way.

Bang for buck, IMO the 2010, no question

By decription you've provided the price delta is well worth it in favor of the 2010, eg. My rule of thumb, $1 per mile deduction on the 2007 equals $10k right there. Don't take my advice but my advice is drop the silly investment proposition unless you're trying to convince your wife. If you're fortunate enough to benefit at the end let it be a surprise at that point otherwise your full enjoyment of the vehicle will be diminished. It will hold its relative value but it's not a collector\investment money maker model.

thanks for the thoughts. i appreciate the $1 per mile comment makes sense to me. i assumed a flat return investment or possibly making a little. no wife to bitch but i did buy the girlfriend a new kitchen so i didnt have to hear her ask for a ring yet. one for me one for her keeps her at bay...cheers

do search on 7gt3 sub forum to learn - the 7.1 vs 7.2 debate has been covered ad nauseum

buying cars, even a 7gt3, for investment is really not smart

Buy the 7.1 for $80k! Think of it being worth $50k! Drive it, clean it and just enjoy it. If it happens to be worth more when you sell it, just a bonus.

I have been searching pretty hard and haven't found a .1 GT3 in that price range or even close. Where do people find these cars?! haha.

Personally, I actually prefer the looks of the .1 something about the wing and wheels I love more. Haven't driven either though to know which I prefer there.

I prefer the looks of the .1 with the exception of the rear spoiler. .1 is more raw/analog which I prefer. I have the DSC w/3 settings so driving around town is a pleasure compared to the OEM suspension module. Also, I prefer 5 lug over centerlock.

If you're not going to track it don't buy a GT3, it's not a great street car. Both examples sound a bit low to me, check them out thoroughly.

Another consideration is engine harmonics issues that 7.2 has that 7.1 doesn't. BMW taught me that I don't like two things: the "Will it start?" game and ticking time bombs. Look up the info from Dundon Motorsports in regards to that for more info.

Aye. I think a Carrera 4S will give you a better experience every day/as a daily driver. Or a Turbo S.
