Default Purchasing GT3, carfax shows the catalytic converter was replaced twice since 2013?

I have my eye on a 2010 GT3 with 27,000 miles on it. The carfax is mostly clean and shows a decent service history, but it does show that the catalytic converter was replaced in 2013 at 13,000 miles and then again in 2016 at 25,000 miles. Could this be an indication of some deeper problem? Is the cat a common problem with the 997.2 GT3?

Further, the dealership told me that "all the shops around southern California have stopped offering PPIs because they are not profitable". This seems a little sketch to me, is there any truth to that?

Track use kills cats. How's the over rev report?

It looks decent, though I can't confirm the authenticity of it via a photo. The ad *claims* it was never tracked, but I don't know how a dealer could really know that for sure. (Nor would it really be a deal breaker for me).

How many total hours on the car. Looks ok.
Not sure I buy that on CPO unless car needs more $ to make it pass than they think is marketable.
Have car inspected fully.
Where on SoCal is it?
Easy enough to eyeball a car on lift and get a sense for it.

It's in Laguna Hills (Shift Bespoke Automotive). David from the dealership said that most of the shops in SoCal have stopped offering PPIs which sounds pretty strange to me, but all the reviews on the dealership are good and a couple Rennlisters already vouched for them.

Dunno if it's "common" but mine went bad during the previous owners' ownership at around 20k miles. I've heard its "not uncommon." I had it replaced. Porsche will only warranty the side that goes bad. Two cats, one on each header. I'm guessing one side went bad, then the other side did, which explains two cat replacements.

In the interest of preserving the one cat that Porsche didn't warranty/replace on my car (since it's not dead yet), I've since replaced both headers with M&M headers/high flow cats....at least, that's what I told myself to justify the replacement.

Ah, that actually makes a little more sense. I didn't consider that there are two cats.

Of course they are. You should replace your headers with a higher performance alternative immediately. Those cats could die any darn second now.

right side catalytic converter was replaced under warranty early the year, and my 2010 GT3 at that time had no more than 12,700 miles. I did search at that time and it appears is common.

If you're in So Cal I would send the car to GMG for the PPI.

With all due respect to the dealer salesman in question, his response was a bit obtuse.

We perform PPI's on a regular basis. We start by following Porsche's Multi-Point Inspection guidelines, and go from there. A 997 GT3 is a car we know a little something about. If you have any questions, just let me know via email/pm.

GMG took care of my 997.2 GT3. Allen and the team at GMG know the GT3's really well, and know where and what to look for.

I cannot say enough great things about the people and the level of professionalism in the facility. Top notch in my book!
