Default 18" slicks recommendations

Hey

any recommendations on tire sizes for slicks on a 997.2 GT3 RS? Would be mounted to 18" wheels.

thanks

245/645/18 and 315/680/18 is what I like, Pirelli DH. I think you can go to a 275 in the front on a RS and even a 325 rear

Michelins are the bomb. Pirelli a good second choice

Michelins don't last nearly as long and are only sticky for a few cycles. For HPDE Pirellis are better.

Speaking of tires I just did a search on tire rack for 305/35/18 and there's only ONE available...the r888's. Hmmm. Currently have NT01's on my rear in that size. Not sure why there doesn't seem to be any more options.

I've had the most mileage on the RS on Pirelli DH 19's. For 18's go with the 245/645 and 315/680.

DH's can take 2-3 heat cycles before losing about a second in the next 3-5 cycles. Beyond that they're only good for lapping. DM's overheat way too quickly (for me)... a bad combo with the heavy street car.

Mich Cup N2's are a half-second faster than DH's (sticker vs sticker), decline linearly (but faster) than the DH. Lasts ~75% of the life of the DH. Have never used them on the RS but would expect faster degradation due to the greater weight.

Lastly, Pirelli quotes sizes in full tire width while Mich/Yoko quote tread width (hence the actual tire is wider). Mich 30/68-18 is the widest Cup N2 that'll fit your rears; 24/64-18 is probably the max for the front (dunno if folks have tried the 24/65 and if that rubs?). Those fronts will have to be a different compound as these sizes are not available as N2.

Depends on your expectations. I got 55 heat cycles out of the Michelins- even cycled out they're better than Nitto track tires. Been pretty happy with the Pirelli too

This comes to mind. Originally created in 2005, updated for current $ valuations and income levels.

Dang! You must be gentle on tires. I run Pirelli DH that are probably 5HC old when I get them and I can run about another 15 before they are toast.

I've said it before but it's worth mentioning - you run cup tires expect cup lifecycles on all your suspension parts

If not driver beware

They run Pirelli DH tires

And every part cycles out - seen someone even snap control arm from fatigue failure - more grip equals more stress

I don't run slicks myself so I don't know the hours but cup forum would

If you are cranking on car on slicks I'd recommend running cup replacement cycles

WTF control arm from fatigue? I could see if you were jumping off curbs or something but that's crazy.

Yep. We check for wear and fatigue. Have replaced a few parts.

As far as buying Pirelli scuff tires- YMMV. I had a set go three weekends, another didn't make it thru one. The Michelins I had bought new. If you buy new ones- be REAL CAREFUL the first two laps. Like hockey skates until they get scuffed a little
