the .1 has a sunroof and 5 lug wheels.
the .2 has larger brakes and a little more power.
Either car will make you happy.
Both are great, buy the best example you can find for your budget.

I own a 1 and love it. Very visceral driving experience. Best car I have driven. The 2 was out of budget at the time and have no regrets. I still need to drive a 2, but I have a habit of wanting something after I drive it. I would buy the best car you can find with the options you want. I don't think you will be disappointed either way.
The true question is it worth it to own both? The car enthusiast in me says yes, but my mind tells me it's better to have two different driving experiences. I thought about the Turbo and GT3 combo.

Both are fantastic cars and you will be thrilled with either. I was in a similar situation and eventually went with a mk2. It was not an easy decision, and had the right mk1 came up first I prob would have got it. I paid a premium for low miles and a CPO warranty, as well as most of the options I wanted. I would have to say to find a $10k price difference between a mk1 and mk2 it would have to be a top tier mk1 and a bottom tier mk2. Having driven both, the mk2 definitely feels a bit more refined to me, mainly from the updated PASM I think. The mk2 definitely felt a bit quicker, especially in the mid range. I didn't notice the mk1 revving any faster, but I did slightly prefer the higher pitch tone of the 3.6 engine as it revs. I find the mk1 to be a prettier car with a bit more of a classic Porsche look, but the mk2 looks more aggressive and has a more modern appearance.
Bottom line is if I were doing it all over again I would buy the best example I could afford. So a mint mk 2 would be my first choice and if budget didn't allow that I would go with a mint mk1 over an average or below average mk2. Good luck and enjoy the ride!

Thanks for all the responses. Assuming I can manage the price difference, I'm inclined to get the .2 because of the addition of a stability control system. If it's true as one poster said that the .2 catches mistakes most of the time or even some of the time compared to the .1, the extra safety is worth the price differential. I'm in the market because my '07 was punished severely going onto the front straight at Palmer.

.2 is better car in many ways over the .1 except the looks department (to me at least). I also like having the sunroof ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
if street car both are okay.
if track i'd go .2

The spread is greater than $10k for similar mileage and condition. The 3.8 is torquier. The 3.6 does rev quicker. 3.6 feels faster right off the line but less punchy once rolling in mid-rpms. They feel similar pull at high rpms. 3.8 rear suspension might be biggest difference? 3.6 rear end is lively; it dances. 3.8 is fairly planted in comparison; much more composed. I like the 3.6 suspension on back roads. It is fun. You can feel everything and the "dancing" characteristic is fun. I'd take 3.8 suspension on track or for just running around town; more compliant and more composed. Each evolution seems to be better at the extremes (dd and at track limit) and less fun in the middle (back road twisties); 991 takes it even a step further. 3.6 seems louder which is counter-intuitive to me; but my ears say it's louder? Visually, wing is biggest separation. I like the wing on 3.8 but that's 110% personal opinion. There are angles I love the 3.6 wing (directly behind it) and angles I'm not crazy about (from the side). I've owned both. Since both will be more and more antiquated performance as time goes on, I go for the experience and the aesthetics. I give 3.6 the edge on driving fun and 3.8 the slight nod on aesthetics. If I want max performance and best dd, I buy a gt4 or 991 or whatever comes next.
If I only had one car or trying to buy the best all-around mezger gt, 3.8 gt3 is it imo. If I was adding a thrilling/unique driving experience, setting aside the 997rs's, 3.6 gt3 gets the not over 3.8 gt3.

I got a 3.8 rs after loving my .1 gt3 for almost three years and couldn't believe there was a machine that improved upon it. My plan was to take delivery of the new(er) car and then sell the .1 gt3 in time.
It's been 9 mos. I still have both.
I don't think you will be disappointed whichever way you go.

Drove both but as others have said the 3.8 felt even more of a beast, but honestly on public roads the .1 is all most would ever need. I prefer sunroof delete but I had not choice in that, but I did get the more raw spec .1 with no nav, and non - leather dash and door cards.
Decided on the .1 mostly because a great example came up in my search.
