It seems that it was removed intentionally.

That would have two benefits:

1) weight reduction
and
2) reduce engine drag, so more power available to the wheels.

I was not trying to make fun of Paver's dilemma, rather it was the absurdity of the dealership's response based on what was posted.

When one hears "the clutch is gone" this usually means it is non functional:
A) fried
B) worn
C) not engaging when powered

An entire missing assembly, you have to admit, sounds odd based on the mechanics of it.

However, if the entire clutch assembly is factually not there that does not mean the refrigerant section of the AC system has been exposed to atmosphere; you can remove and replace a clutch without losing refrigerant or exposing the system to atmosphere; just like removing an alternator without need to remove the engine's oil.

Hopefully Paver will explore the situation a bit more with the Service Adviser whom can explain exactly what, how and when; maybe there was a burglar or prankster was doing some mid night shenanigans; it only takes 10 minutes to take one off.

There's no issue with the belt. Power steering is working as it should. Alternator is working. A/c is the only thing not working.
Griffith, where are you located? Wondering if you can look at it for me to confirm what they are telling me. Pm if you don't mind.

Paver,

I'm stuck in NJ... long story.

Just take a picture of where the clutch should be, or the surrounding area
near the compressor, if there is a cover of it all just take it off. You can either post the picture in this thread or send by email to us; pm sent to you.
