lowest price i ever witnessed on a 997.2 was $90k
They cannot be had for under hundred nowadays.
They have more power and bigger brakes then the 997.1RS
Great car if you can find one.

I hope this isn't perceived as hijacking the thread, but I need feedback and this group seems to be the place to get it! I have owned any number of Porsches including a 996 GT3 and a 997.1 GT3. But it's been quite a while for either of those cars. (My most recent Porsche was a 2010 Cayman S with PDK). I'm currently driving a Tesla P85D which I love - it's the best luxury sedan I've ever owned (bar none).
Anyway - work has been good to me and I'm considering adding a 911 to the garage to complement the Tesla. I'd like something that's a bit rough around the edges (the opposite of the Tesla). I drove a used 6 speed 991 GTS this week and my initial reaction was meh. Certainly a nice car - all the bells and whistles, loved the rev matching and the stick, but it seemed really expensive to me ($112K) for what it was.
Plan would be to drive the car a couple of times a week to enjoy the sound, being engaged in the driving process, the beauty of the car, etc. It's unlikely I'll track it. And I'd like a fairly hassle free ownership experience. Knowing myself, I'll probably own the car for about 24 months and then get itchy to do something else. I'm price conscious but won't let that get in my way of making the right choice.
I keep coming back to searching for a 997.2 GT3 at the right price. For those fortunate enough to own one - does it sound like a reasonable idea given my circumstances? (Or would you suggest something else?)

OK, I admit that I may be biased....
But if you want a slightly rougher around the edges experience, how about a 997.1 GT3?
20 fewer HP that you really won't notice on the street, the 3.6 revs quickly, no centerlocks or cam actuator bolt issues and if it has over 15K miles, relatively affordable as compared to a .2 GT3.

since you've owned a 997.1 GT3 before, you should know whether or not that would scratch the itch you've got.
as for 997.1 vs 997.2, people who have driven both say that the PASM on the 997.2 makes it a bit more compliant for street use. and the 997.2 engine doesn't rev as quickly as the 997.1. so the 997.1 would be the rawer of the two and should be cheaper to buy.
personally, i think the interior of the 997.2 is nicer and i prefer the 997.2 wing to the 997.1 taco wing. i liked the idea of the larger displacement engine, but can't say that necessarily matters much for the type of weekend fun driving i do.
one other way to solve your question would be to think about what other cars you might consider. having had my 997.2 GT3 for a bit over a year now, i can't really think of any other car i'd want for the role of fun weekend car other than maybe a GT4.

Thanks JackB and Saru. I appreciate the thoughts. The GT4 is for sure in consideration. However I continue to circle back mentally to the 997.2 GT3 (love the looks, certification and history). Time to go somewhere and drive them (Atlanta, I guess).

Both offer the same thrills.
The 997.1 is a little more affordable and has 5 lugs.
Sunroof is actully nice too if you mainly street the car.
I love mine.

Hey Saru385 was good meeting up with you on Friday afternoon, just happened you had this thread and we were at the same spot at the same time. Beautiful day. I might do a repeat of that today, not sure what to take.
That's my Harley in this photo in front of Saru's Car.
