Default RS 4.0 or Speciale or 16M?

Hello guys,

I am looking to add a further modern emotional sports car to my collection.

I want to enjoy the car on several sunny weekends and I donīt want to loose money with it.

Of course I would appreciate if it would be also a good investment.

I am thinking of a GT3 RS 4.0 below 500 miles, a Ferrari 458 Speciale below 500 miles and a Ferrari 16M with 2500 miles. All are roughly the same price.

Whatīs your opinions?

Cheers

Alex

If you don't want to lose money on it and plan to drive it, why not focus on cars with a few more miles?

Allegedly Ferrari claim that only 499 of the 16M s were produced (Sheehan claims 700) and their prices have doubled in the last 4 years so I feel their value is overpriced. Also, the water pump and oil pump are an all-in-one unit and share a common shaft whose seals are critical to preventing a $50,000.00 major engine repair. If you haven't driven one, this is the almost analog Ferrari track star. I love how raw they are but pricing is ripe for a fall as only dealers are boosting them now

The Speciale production numbers are much higher but I think they still suffer depreciation yet to come. Frankly, I have not warmed up the the front end of the Speciale.

The 4.0 is your car

I do think the Speciale is the better overall car IMHO, but the 4.0 could be driven hard and sold for profit in the end.

I am biased because I own 4.0 but I think it's one of greatest cars to own at any price. I'd put 997 2rs in that same bucket. However, there's one fcar I lust after and will own at some point: the Speciale. I think they have a ways to fall from here but I'll own one when they do. Last NA mid engine fcar monster. It's one to have in the stable. I'm not a big Ferrari guy but it's the one I will have at some point.

As much as I lust after a Speciale, wouldn't trade my 40 for one unless at gunpoint

And, I agree, unless you plan to park it under a blanket and never drive it, a 500mile car is a waste. You will destroy value. If you don't care, more power to you!

16M. Will continue to rise in value (IMHO) and is a hoot to drive, even with the single clutch paddles.

+1 on the 16M. It's the rarest of the bunch if you're looking to collect.

Agreed, lots of drama, very fun to drive the 16M but coming from Porsche ownership be prepared for Italian dealers, repairs and costs that get crazy fast. ($20k Scuderia exhaust manifold, $26k for the F1 actuator repair, etc.)

You are scaring the OP. Ive had my 08 scud for 4 years and I have had to do yearly service only. And look, I bought it for $160 then, now how much is it? Even if I do a yearly for $2000 a year(only every other year), for it selling $220-260, it pays for itself. I should have bought a 16M then, it was $299. Now it is selling $450-499.

Buy what you like, its your money.
