Thanks for all the kind words. Really happy to be back in a gt3, even if only the "lowly" 996! As mentioned above, the lambo/gt3 pairing really is a complimentary combo! Just added a pair of the perlon euro seats. Need to get some nice ccw's, maybe a cup wheel, and then the car will be pretty close to perfect!

No problem!!!! Btw, he totally regrets selling that car!!! So much so that after I repurchased mine, we did a little road trip to Orange County to pick up a white 997.2 with a bunch of cup parts. It's definitely no 4.0 though!

It is natural brown. Great color. Just as an update, I ended up selling this car to assist with a real estate transaction and also because I wanted something more track focused, and less pristine that I would not worry about as much at the track. So I bought a high mileage track rat 996 gt3 a few months ago which I adore. And I don’t have to worry about rash, chips or scratches (since they are already there, in spades!). It’s the perfect track car in my opinion.

This is super true! What happened to me was that I loved my gt3, but it wasn't right for me as my "only" fun car. But as a second (or third sports car to fill a gap in the stable, its pretty awesome (under the radar, great track car, super fun to drive, very different driving experience than other turbo/big displacement sports cars, etc...). I love my air-coooled/analog gt3/gated 6 speed lambo combo. Only really missing the high hp 911 turbo torque monster now (but trying to stay married and avoid bankruptcy!).

I traded in my 996 Turbo in 2012 for a 2008 Super G to cross it off the bucket list. Driving the Super G was like driving a coffin compared to a 996, but it didn’t matter. Hearing that starter motor turn for a few seconds before the V-10 roared to life was intoxicating. Lamborghini lives up to its name with the sound of the V-10 at WOT - like a herd of angry bulls.
Getting gas was always a chore because of the attention. BTW, don’t ever put that beautiful gas cap on top of the gas pump, because you may be distracted by conversation with strangers and forget it, like I did and found out 2 weeks later getting gas. That gas cap cost me $450!
I’m back in a 996 Turbo, and it’s definitely more my speed. It flies much more under the radar over the G.
Anyway, congrats to you lucky souls that have both a 911 and a G in their stable - enjoy them in good health!

This was a fun read. I didn't realize when I started reading the thread that it was from over 3 years ago. Glad to see that the Italian made you appreciate the German even more, and that you were able to keep both cars in the end!

But....It lacks something that I can't quite put my finger on, that the gt3 has in spades. Its not looks, and its not power (the Gallardo wins in both categories in my opinion). And its not as simple as saying "the gt3 handles better." That's a true "only"
So, am I going to sell the Gallardo? No, not yet. But do I miss having a gt3 in the garage? Very much so. If I had to do it all over again would I? Close call, but probably not. Will I buy another gt3 at some point? There is literally no doubt, and hopefully when that time comes I'll be in a position to keep both! In the meantime, I'll continue to monitor the rennlist classifieds, you know, just in case!
(thought I'd share some recent pics from the last time I made the mistake of taking it to a basketball game at an elementary school. Came out and there was a guy with a huge camera taking pics. He was nice enough to send me a few of the shots).
What you need to try if you haven't is an F430 in a subtle darker color. It has super responsive controls and a lightness about it, lovely flat plane crank v8 that revs instantly, especially with a manual transmission. Still won't resolve practicality and flashiness although should be better than Lambo.
