The 991 GT3 is mind numbing. People in my native Germany are starting to sell and are trying to pick up the 997. There are some on this forum, particularly on the 991 GT3 forum, who think they know all the 991 GT3 drivers in Europe - they do not - and won't believe what I am saying . I would not touch a 991 GT3 without warranty or even for just toting around town.
The making of the GT3 as we know it is dead, it died when the last 997 came off the line. Going fast is not always the point, control is, and the computers in the 991 do everything for you. People are faster on the track in auto mode vs. manual mode, freaking auto mode.

It used to be seeing a GTR on a student assignment sheet that ruined my weekend, but now unquestionably it's a 991. Something about the mindset of the people who buy them, and then what they expect from a car.

I sold my 991 GT3 after 6k miles, nothing really bad about the car...except just too much technology. Replaced it with a 2009 997.1 TT that I am medium modding, 997 GT3 is next to add. BTW, I hate the poseur CLs...to me exactly what porsche should NOT be about. My P cars have included 993TT, 996TT, 997TT, 996 GT3, 996GT2...with a couple of Lotus (elise/exige) in between. I suspect that the 9A1 engines revving to 9k rpm at the track are just ticking time bombs. GL

I hung out in the 991 forum and not so quickly realized I'm not part of that crowd. Some cool guys there, but not many.

Has anyone read this months Excellence 911 magazine? I need to get a subscription. This months issue is about GT3 values. I'm told it says the .1 GT3 / RS values will soar past the .2 in the future.

A quick look at classifies will show how many of which version are for sale. Guess which iteration is for sale in larger numbers…

Since you all were very helpful with insight and information, I believe it's fair to give some feedback.
Friday I made up my mind to let the RS go for the 991 GT3. Went in to dealership to have one last look and sign the paperwork.
Well, when it came down to it, I could not let the RS go and did not purchase the 991...... at least for now.
There are many elements that I still enjoy in the RS and there are different aspects of the 991 GT3 that I would have enjoyed. Ideally both would be perfect but not there yet.
For me, now, the 997 RS is still a very appealing car and when the time comes, I will move to my next toy.
I thank all of you with the feedback, comments and advice you dispensed. It has been extremely valuable and helpful to me.

i'm telling you... letting the RS go you will regret it. Matter of time.
Save your pennies and add. RS are keepers, in any condition, any situation.

Their Market Trends says "Values of the 997 GT3 are climbing gently - an impressive feat for a regular production model built through 2011 - while the rarer 2007-2008 GT3 RS has enjoyed significant appreciation."
I didn't find any statements about prices of .1 GT3 relative to .2 GT3.

I've been out of the country traveling for work for almost 3 months. My wife was just telling me how lovely it has been and how she doesn't miss anything back in the states. She then turned, looked at me, and said "what about you? Do you miss anything? I smiled and said "I miss driving my RS" she just laughed and said "I knew you would say that!" Even she knows what's up!
It's a special car for sure. Glad you decided to keep it.

I met a gentleman last August in the parking lot at The Quail during Pebble Beach week. Him and his wife were getting out of a Black/Orange 997.1 RS. As I walked by, I said, great car! He responded, this is my favorite one!
So being car guys we chatted for awhile and during our conversation I learned he has an F50, Enzo, Challenge Stradale and a Carrera GT amongst others. He said, unequivocally, that the RS was his favorite to drive.
Pretty high praise!
