F430 or 997 GT3?

F430 Spyder is one of the sweetest street cars....I would own one over a GT3 in a heartbeat (if I just wanted a fun street car).

Where the Ferrari REALLY loses is in costs of maintenance. Costs a small fortune to maintain and if there is any damage...look out! I had to replace the front bumper on my SCUD as an old man in an old Ferrari creased it enough to not be repairable when he backed into me. It was $17,000 and the car was out of commission for 12 weeks. I used to drive a 599 as well. A friend had to replace a windshield on his 599. It was $8000 and car out of commission for 6 weeks. Shocks to go round the 599, due usuallly near 20K miles, were $14K!!! Driving the bejesus out of the Ferraris was fun....27,000 miles seat time on twisty roads mostly...but the expense became tiring even tho I could afford the costs. Ferraris may be sexy but they are not as well made or as easy to maintain. Buyer be informed!

When I told my sister out in Denver that we had acquired our GT3, she suggested I not let her husband drive it, as he had just crunched the front end of a friends' Ferrari into a rock wall, trying to park it. Someday I will find out more. Good way to end a friendship.
My own hopes of someday owning a Ferrari have faded away. Now, my daughter's brother in law, an ophthomologist, has a nice Turbo Porsche, and a 458 and just got some 12 cylinder new Ferrari to join his stable. But no wife and no kids. What else can he spend his $ on.
Back in '71, when I was at Ft. Bragg learning Vietnamese for my soon to come year as an Advisor in IV Corps, one of my Captain friends went back to Italy, and brought back a four cam long nose GTB, red of course. He said every used Ferrari he looked at had been owned first by Gina Lollabridgida, or so they claimed. His GTB sat out in the rain next to my Type III VW Squareback. He and I went over together to the same Province, but he soon came down with TB, and was sent home. When I see a GTB for same on some auction site, i often think of his car and wonder it it is the one in the magazine.
I do have a very nice model of a Lusso on my shelf.
All the best....

I have a 430 Scuderia and .2 RS. If I can only have one of the two, the Ferrari probably wins it. It is not better to drive, or faster on track, or better in any of measurable way, but as a driving experience, I prefer it over the RS. Having said that, I wouldn't consider the normal 430 at all.
