seller can act, lie and just pretend to be a monk... car needs full eyes and hands on and if you are no expert pay one. Due diligence.

Would you buy a car off mooty just because of his forum persona? He sounds dodgy to me or reter/trakcar's never seen a track in their lives cars?... joking... course you would.

If the sticker under the hood is the one being referenced is the VIN sticker; they quit doing that quite a while ago. I believe they stopped doing it with the 996. Some early 997's had it but it was random. I just went through this with mine as it was a question. There is a lot of info on the web. Agreed- paint meter will tell the tale.

Pictures of the hood are pointless!!! On the 4th pic down I cannot tell if that is dirt or a paint line along the edge of the hood. Hit that bad boy up with a paint thickness meter.... that will solve all questions about a repair.

I would only trust a PPI that I commissioned.

It is the clear bra edge you are seeing and you cannot put a paint meter on a car that has a clear bra on it. If the 10 mm bra is 10 mm it will read 10 mm more. You cannot get an accurate read from paint meter with bra on a panel you are trying to read.

It is the label that says Made in Germany Air Conditioner caution to be service by qualified personnel only. It just shows this is the factory label and has not been replaced or damaged. This is the factory hood.

Looks like a paint line in Pic 4. A paint meter will end the discussion. Porsche lays it on thin at the factory. Very hard if not impossible to duplicate that thinness again.

Again this is the clear bra edge same as around fuel filler res. You cannot get a accurate paint meter reading on a panel that has a bra.

Any suggestions on what I could change the title of the thread to?

Never mind, the title can't be changed.

I'm closing this thread.
At this point, the car seems to be in decent shape and that the original PPI may have been wrong.

Chuck, I wish you all the best with the sale of the car.
