My apologies for the very new-esque questions, but are there any non-public channels where members/owners will post their cars for sale prior to opening them up to the general public?
I'm trying to determine where to concentrate my efforts in order to purchase a car as soon as one comes readily available which fits my criteria.

Thank you all for the insight. I plan to be a lifetime member of this community and hope to positively contribute and share my experiences of these wonderful machines with those who appreciate the complexity, involvement, and visceral experience of piloting these cars.

As always good comments from RL community.
With understanding OP's wants: (i) $125K - $140K budget, and (ii) no track:
I would recommend a 7.2 non-RS cream puff.
I've been through all flavors of 997 GT3's/RS' (only not owned 4.0, but driven), and have decided to keep the 7.2 non-RS. I do ~10 trackdays/year and use it for daily driving as well. Car always puts a smile on my face. Wife voted against keeping the 7.2 RS as the LWFW was had too much mechanical cabin noise to have a conversation and no benefit on the street. Car is amazing out of the box and needs nothing (except alignment day 1).
