2009. It's right between the 997-1 and the 997-2, so best of both worlds! Oh wait, they didn't make them that year

Do a bit of searching and you'll find out which car best suits your needs and your wallet.

Depends on your wants and budget. I had to have a manual and could afford a 997.2 so that's what I bought.

Need to state your budget. And if you're looking for a garage queen or a driver.

The best?

For that budget you will find a 997.2 GT3 or POSSIBLY at the higher end a 997.1 GT3RS.
The RS will be more "special" and may retain it's value better
Both will be good drivers, and a lot of fun
997.2 will have slight edge on refinement (updated interior, just a tick more power, and suspension calibration).

Performance-wise these cars are really identical, at least on track. The 997.2 GT3RS will have a slight edge mainly due to gearing. But you're outside your budget for a garage queen for a gen2 RS

So:
2007-2008 GT3RS
2010-2011 GT3

I had to make this choice 2 years ago (when prices were 40% lower than they are today!!! Great condition 997.2 GT3 were about 90-95, same for the Gen1 RS at the time) and I choose the RS. Although for a different mission, track day use.

Is the suspension the same on a GT3 and the same MY in RS?

Within the same generation, similar. there are a few differences, for example RS gets split rear control arms.

For general street use you won't notice.

The gen 2 cars have a better damper/spring calibration, but for street use not sure you're going to really notice it. track yes, gen1 front springs are too soft.
Gen 2 cars also have option for nose lift, this can be retro fitted to gen1 cars with aftermarket setup

Not splitting hairs, but for street use .2's have more midrange torque. Pretty noticeable.

My apologies for the very new-esque questions, but are there any non-public channels where members/owners will post their cars for sale prior to opening them up to the general public?

I'm trying to determine where to concentrate my efforts in order to purchase a car as soon as one comes readily available which fits my criteria.

agree with Spyerx on this. my budget didn't reach up to what .1 RS cars were going for, so i tracked down a .2 non-garage queen. i like the displacement bump, PASM, rear wing and updated interior of the .2 so didn't really look at .1 cars.

edit: oh, and i wanted the front axle lift, so that also went in favor of the .2
