Hey there my fellow members, I have the opportunity to purchase the Porsche of my dreams; a 997.2 GT3. However, I also have a holding deposit down for a C7 Z06 (which is refundable). Do you all think I should grab the GT3 while I can or go with the Z06 and not look back?
Let me know your thoughts
P.S. I know this is a Porsche forum and I expect their to be a little bias, but please be as unbiased as possible

Tough one.
The gt3 is not a track car (u less modified, at which point you should be buying a track car and not a gt3) and it's a tough street car.
I love it as a street car. But that is because it is exactly what I want. A manual mezger sound in a handsome body that is plenty fast and looks gorgeous.
The z06 is the newest bad boy. I am sure it's a ton of fun. I don't lust for one. Do you? I will say that I have always liked and recently started looking at the old c6 z06. Not as a gt3 replacement but just as a car I like. And as far as normally aspirated goes.

Two totally different cars.
GT3 is a b1tch to learn how to drive very fast, and even at that point not even in the same ballpark as the C7Z06.
Being difficult to drive is part of the allure though, it brings soul and character. The Z is just brutally fast end of story.
Do you want a journey, or just to be the fastest car on the track? (oh and this is assuming you are tracking...)

If you want to go fast for a few laps at a time (say, 2 or 3, maybe 4 tops), then Z06.
If you want a car that asks much more of a driver than any backseat driver you'll ever find, then the 7.2 GT3.

Nothing is more difficult, and therefore more precious, than to be able to decide.

ShakeNBake above pretty much captures it.
997GT3 is intoxicating in its character and feel of being something really special. It's limits are a good notch lower than the C7 Z06, and to master driving the GT3 well is a process over time, but one that brings great enjoyment and fulfillment IMO.
The Z06 - well you just get in and you are superman - like most modern performance cars, it does a lot of the heavy lifting for you, its nannies keep you out of trouble, and the grip and power are more than you would ever want. Some have said the Z06's falter at the track... mine (a manual) has been problem free even in pretty warm weather.
If you are serious about your choice you should find a way to drive (or be driven) in both.

Agree. But somehow a lot of gt3 owners think they are driving a race car on the street, lol.
Gt3 is a great, extremely pleasurable canyon craving car.
With few amenities, to steer the soul a little more in this modern era for those who like to be stuck in the past. My self included. Art of driving .

I have always liked the less common cars, and I see 'Vettes everywhere, and most of them look about the same to other folks. Unless you know the cars, hard to tell one from another. Plus just too big a car for me. But 'Vettes are formidable cars, and great performance for the money.
I was in the same situation about 14 years ago. I was finally in the financial position to buy a Shelby Cobra, a Superformance version of that car. I considered at that time the other cars I could have acquired, a Viper, NSK, Porsche, 308, and a few others. But I had wanted to some how have a Cobra since I was in HS and I saw the first 289 and then 427 cars. I the end, I just imagined sitting in something else at a stop light, and looking over at a Cobra, and thinking "that is really what I wanted all these decades," and wishing I had gotten the Shelby.
So perhaps if you do the same, see yourself in either the GT3 or the Corvette, and imagine what you would say to yourself.
Both are fine cars, and much appreciated by their owners.
Nice to have such a choice,
all the best...
