Tough but good position to be in

I'm lucky to have driven both and own both a c5Z and a 996 Turbo. I think it comes down to what you really want. I am in the process of selling my vette because I always lusted after a porsche. I initially wanted a GT3 but a deal happened to fall in my lap.

As car enthusiasts, it's nice to have this sort of endless choices of good cars. I'd say get the porsche first, then sell or pick up the Z later on after depreciation. You can always find a vette easier with it being a bit more mass produced than the porsche.

In the end everyone has their own fancy, either are great cars to own.

both cool cars, just ask how much they will be worth in 3 or 5 years if you care about resell value.

My only comparisons is i've had a C6Z and then now a 7.1-3. Street the Z06 is so much better, it actually got better gas mileage, has more power, and a very very useable trunk. I never tracked the C6Z but I'm sure it was very capable, actually a a t-hill day I was out a guy with one recorded the fastest lap time of the day.

To me, this isn't even a hard decision. I've owned a C5Z in the past and, while I did love the engine, felt it's overall engineering was a massive let-down. Granted, the C7 is better but as a 'complete' car I cannot fathom that it's level of engineering as a total package is up to the level of a GT class Porsche.

Porsche...there is no substitute. You won't always be the fastest by any means, but you'll be driving the best engineered car and will be smiling from ear to ear. The overall experience of owning and driving a GT class Porsche is miles away from the Chevrolet.

This is BS. GT3 is a great track car, out of the factory one of the best. It doesn't "NEED" anything. It's NOT a race car. There is a massive difference there obviously.

And this is why I keep driving mine, its stupid fun, and hard as hell to be fast, but when you hit a corner right and feel that back end sliding around, mat the throttle and it launches out, turning exactly where you want it there is no better feeling.

Being difficult to drive is part of the allure though, it brings soul and character. The Z is just brutally fast end of story.

c7z is a problematic car and then you have to deal with gm service. I have a friend with one and it's been at the dealer for 2 months. They chipped a ceramic rotor and refuse to replace.
