I just went through the same thing. Finally passed on the 4th try. I called my dealer and they told me it takes about 4 drive cycles. I tried to keep it below 3k rpm or 60mph but that didn't help so I just got a 30 day permit and drove my car around more than usual.

best thing to do is get a durametric or something similar that forces allows you to run the cycles. Irritating!

We did that with PIWIS, it won't allow EVAP or Secondary Air to force. But, secondary air is now set... so just EVAP. It's not really a force, but a short test cycle.

Ah crap yeah you can run the whole "smog ready" test cycles for sure. Usually on gen1's by 24 hours and 80miles everything gets covered too.

Evap readiness takes a long time to set. My smog guy said one or maybe two readiness flags not set is acceptable for passing for the later ODB2 cars in California. So I went in without my evap flag set and passed smog tests no problem, and that was in the heart of Los Angeles where it's probably the strictest. I think you should not worry about it and be ok test.

And we have success! 5 or 6 drive cycles. COLD START then follow above or just take it easy under 3k and 60mph. I put about 150 PAINFULLY SLOW miles on it to get all indicators to set. All but EVAP and secondary air set quick. Those two needed the drive cycles.

On the indicators, I went to my smog guy yesterday and talked to him he plugged in his scanner and said ALL readiness need to be set before they will pass the car. Maybe I need to use your smog guy!

It passed readiness this am after taking a 20 min drive to the shop.

What a pain. Anyway. Off to smog check! Hope that passes but should be good.

Usc: this process is for any car that doesn't have smog readiness set. Not unique to Porsche.

They changed the laws...a couple years ago, you could have one monitor not-ready...now ALL must be ready (Source: my SMOG guy in Hollywood)

Total pain in the ***...bet I'll need to do this since I barely drive the car under 3000rpm

Just another reason to keep cars registered in NV.

Do you drive your car on the street? Any worries about being pulled with Nevada plates? Do you say your primary residence in Nevada?

Been going through this cycle with my M3 a few times now. Fill the gas tank up and the evap monitor cycles the next start up, three times in a row now...the catalyst monitor on the other hand, not so much

Car passed smog. Another 2 years before I have to go to pollution court.

Regarding cat monitor... That takes distance another thing on evap, don't have a full tank. Between 1/3 and 2/3.

Yeah, I drive all of my cars on the street even the Cayman (until July when it goes in for gutting and caging). I have a NV driver's license and NV insurance. I spend a lot of time in both CA and NV. When I get pulled over in CA I just say that I'm here visiting my mom (who does live in CA) and can even give them an address to check too.

You can always gut and cage it and get a non-operating permit to bypass that nonsense.
