997 GT2/GT2RS Oil Question
Sorry. I don't want to start an oil debate. Just a simple fact checking question.
Was the 997 GT2 or GT2RS factory filled with Mobil 5W50? Thank you.

AFAIK, yes. GT2RS I'm 99% sure, GT2 I think was as well...

Thank you. That's what I thought and remembered from past conversations. I brought this fact up in the 991 GT3 Forum, and wanted to make sure I was correct.
Then, it begs the question, do dealerships even have that oil (Mobil 5W50) in stock for customers than come it for an oil change? I doubt it.
Thanks again.

You would hope the dealers do, but doubt it as well.

Hallo
I do not know which oil was filled from factory, but now my 997 GT2 is filled up with Mobile 0W40. Is it possible that it was filled with wrong characteristic oil by previous owner?
Greetings
Darek

From: Rock Hill, SC, just south of Charlotte, NC
our '07 GT3 was DE'd four times early in it's life by an owner in the DC area. I have all the service records, and the track tech inspections done by a race shop up that area. All four tech inspections included a drain and fill of 10-60, and of course new PCCB Pads, brake fluid flush, etc. I suspect it was run in between DE's and on the street with this oil.
I think the higher viscosity oils were required to avert the engine failures of the M3's at the time. From what i have read, that high a viscosity hinders the variocam operation. Our car now has 0-40 M1, and pegs the oil pressure at anything over idle. Right now the car is at Zuffenhaus near Charlotte getting the pipes welded with the BBI inserts, (BBI turned the sharper edges on the hose retaining nibs for me, so are much smoother to reduce hose cutting), plus all the other things to do while the motor is on the bench. I gave them 5-40 Redline for the re-fill, partly because I like that oil, and i can get it a lot cheaper from some friends who run a NASCAR parts store up in Mooresville. They deal in used and new NASCAR stuff in the industrial park where some of the main teams and specialist shops are. I used a lot of their parts on my prior Superformance Cobra, like the oiling system off Ernie Elliot's team, etc.
Just a few thoughts before I take a walk on the beach. I won't be driving for a month, due to some planned urologic surgery coming up. Tuff, this aging thing....

I don't bother with UOA's (I'm OCD as it gets, but have to cut the line somewhere, lol), only look at manufacturer data sheet/virgin samples...all I can say is good oil going in is your best bet...changing to 5w50 to see oil pressure differences

my blackstone reports were good as well. lost my old data sheets, otherwise i'd post em. nice part about t6 is i don't have a handful of partially used containers...t6 in the truck, all the bikes, and all the cars!

Oil war...bring it on.
Mobil 0-50 race. More zinc and phosphorus to protect the cam lobes, hydraulic lifters, rings, bearings and gears i.e anywhere there are high pressure points. Never had an issue with Cat failing or lambda sensors fouling plus these are cheap and easy to replace compared to and engine.
