I may consider selling my fully tracked prepped .1 with less than 10k miles. Just haven't found time to drive it. It looks more like a .1 cup car than a .1 (cup fenders, wing, wider .2rs rear, roll bar, all solid suspension components, full exhaust, seats, wheels, etc... ) SoCal Car.

I don't follow the Cup market that closely but I understand that there were a bunch of Cup cars from Brazil that flooded the market last year. May have suppressed the prices a bit. Would be cool to own one!

I'm really a rookie in this world, but I bought a mint, white 997.1 GT3 last fall from Jakes Motorcars. I literally got to drive it about two weeks before we got 16 inches of snow in MN.

When I bought it, I was debating on pulling the trigger or waiting until spring. The way things are going, I'm glad I bought it when I did.

Such an awesome car. My first track day is set at Brainerd International Raceway on April 24-26. Can't wait.

my advise is REALLY look in to cup car running cost.
some tell you to run old slicks... erh... try one set of new slicks, you will not drive on old slicks anymore....
the parts on cup time out and are more $ than street GT3 per part

the cup cars even at $250,000 a pop is REALLY cheap. they have resale value later. so your actual cost on the car is not that big. but the running cost.. i tell my good friends this "if you have to have a budget on cup car, you prolly cannot afford it or you prolly not really enjoying it."

Don't cups have 40K rebuilds every 50-60 hours?

Once you have a car whose motor life is measured in hours and not miles you know you are in trouble!

i understand that.
we can also argue forever.
IF YOU USE STREET CAR AND CUP CAR THE SAME WAY, it will be likely the same cost. BUT. you will never use it same way.

street car, taller gear. you are at redline shorter time.
too heavy you can't pull the same g and tear apart the suspension pieces as quickly as you can on cup
no cage, not as safe, you drive it more gingerly, less wear tear.
taller gear less shifting, less likely to miss shift.
it's like a drunk. if i give you one bottle, you drink it. if i give you 3 bottle, you drink all. the potential on cup will make u push it more and wear it more. if you dont do that, maybe just drive a street car then.

can you DE a cup. depends on what type of DE.

i have drvein cup on toyo R compounds. but it was not all that fun.

and most of the cup guys are SURPRISED by the total running cost. yes, they can afford it, but surprised nevertheless.

is it fun, hell yes.....
i was about to sell my kids so i can keep running it. but he's too mean so no high offers...

Mooty, as always, speaks the truth. Running a Cup at DE is no fun unless you have other Cups to run with. The car is the cheapest part of the equation. Think F car ownership type of costs. But the costs just keep multiplying. And when you think you have it all under control, multiply that number by a factor of 2x or more. And all these costs don't take into account any potential off road excursions or up close meeting with the blue bushes.

With all that said, I really wouldn't change a thing about my Cup ownership. The grip is ungodly. The brakes can stop a locomotive. And the power is so addictive. It's an absolutely sick car that could take an typical amateur drover like me a lifetime to master. It's capabilities are just so great. But with all that comes the need (at least in my case) to rob a bank or sell a body part to continue to run......

And one last thing, as Mooty mentioned, the 40 hour engine rebuild myth is just that. Sometimes it seems like guys throw that out there to "dissuade" themselves from buying a Cup. Typical Cups in Club Racing can easily see 150+ hours. If you were just doing DE, and were not killing the car, that number goes up.

150 hours and about 90mph average? So that's about 14000 miles at about redline? Not bad. Not bad. Let's see a 9A1 do this - or not.
