I don't build cars. I manufacture transmission components. I am using the term "we" loosely. I am very closely allied with BGB Motorsports. They are the guys you want to contact. They are a vendor here and they've already done about a dozen 3.8l swaps on 981 cars. This doesn't count the several dozen 987.2s they've done. The 981 we had on display last weekend at Sebring had 20mi on the odo when it was surrendered to them! It is basically a GT4. Not a racecar, but what I call a DE driver's special. They can do what you want.

See above. BGB can quote you a gearbox build with gears and a working LSD. Figure it will be not quite 5 figures to do it right.

Here is the big data point...RIGHT HERE! Mooty...would buy one. When I first started following Rennlist and would sit in awe of Mooty's avatar, wondering why I left So Cal to run a motorsports business in central Florida, Mooty was 911 or die! Now look at him...he tracks a Cayman R AND would buy Porsche's first attempt at a GT Cayman street car. What does all this mean? Nothing really...it could however be interpreted as the fact that every now and again a 911 guy will enjoy a Cayman but it's not for everyone who loves the "Stuttgart Sauce." The Cayman is very much a cult car and seems to be loved by the little guy that was the 2nd shortest kid in his class, like me that was too short to drive even the Indy 500 at the boardwalk in Ocean City or was always told you can't play here. I think they stick up for their brand as much as the 911 owner does but with more passion. Among the hundreds of thoughts inspired during that video, the single most true statement AP divulges is that it's never made sense to hold this thing back when 911 owners don't wander into a dealership to buy a 911 and leave with a Cayman. They may flip back and forth over which models they like on the street on the track but the markets are protected from each other for the reasons you all list on this forum. Even in our shop my techs are divided right down the middle b/w the 911 and the Cayman! Granted we have 2 techs in the whole shop but it's 50/50. PDK however is winning now 100/0 after Hector drove PDK around Sebring in a 991 Turbo S and did a 2:24 in a stock street car.

What Matt refers to as an ally...I refer to as one of the only vendors to continuously got out of their way to help our business. Matt makes products, lets us test them and then basically holds my hand and teaches me how to offer something to the public. Matt has done more to help promote our line of products than any vendor and has become more family than anything. He's just sticking up for his little brother who is all freaked out about the arrival of something we have been fearing for a while.

I would not replace my RS with the GT4....the GT4 would be an addition to the stable.

I see people throwing around $84K as the price for the GT4, but that's the *starting* price. I bet with options most of them will be closer to $100K.

People who will option out a Cayman are not the target audience for this car. I don't see much of that happening. Those guys will buy a GTS and option it out. This is a stripper track car just like a GT3 RS is.

Base car + a paint color + bucket seats + radio delete + ac delete if hardcore = perfect DE car.

Needs no other options.

It's a relative thing. Avg 991 GT3 is probably $150k. Expect avg RS to be around $200k if rumored $180-$185k MSRP is accurate.

Conversely, the only two cars capable of matching or bettering 7:40 Ring time for equal or less money are the Z/28 and pending Mustang GT350R and most here claim they wouldn't be caught dead in either. https://nurburgringlaptimes.com/lap-times-top-100/

I guess that's up to you! If they don't offer clubsport, mine will be around 83 after I've sold the radio! But then it will probably cost a chunk with BGB to change the gearing?

I didn't realize Porsche already has the GT4 on its configurator. I just built 'my' GT4 and it came out to $90K, mainly due to the bucket seats. I'm terrible at guessing the market so I won't even try to predict what the GT4's effect will be on 997 GT3 prices. I will predict that the GT4 will be a pretty awesome driving car though

This is nuts. I've spoken to 2 people today in Denver who are placing orders. One is known RL member whom I will not disclose unless he choses to speak up. The other is not a poster, but owns an '08 997 GT3 RS. This car will be an and for him.

And to answer the original question it would be an "and" for me too. But an "and" to my 977.1 Cup. I personally have no interest in a GT3 street car. But this car ticks all the right boxes for me personally.

I don't see the GT4 affect the 997 GT3 market (or 996GT3, or 964RS for that matter) much, if at all.
I would take the GT4 over any 991 Carrera a 100 times though......

Can 18" wheels be used with the 380mm steel brakes.....that's the remaining question.

I can only drive one car at a time.
Too much overlap with GT3 and I'm not going to part with my GT3.
Would rather add a 356 or early air cooled 911 for fun public road driving.
