Default GT 4 vs 997 GT 3 same customer?

It official..... porsche made another GT car.....

I think the car looks ok....I am sure it will be fast around the track....BUT....

How many 997 GT 3 guys are really considering this car.

To reference a post from the GT 4 thread....In 1970 were people trading in there 70 S for a 914 6??...great analogy. Does it apply today?

The 911/997 lines, driving experience etc. is in my blood. I have no interest in driving a souped up boxer.

I agree. The GT4 is no substitute to a GT3 of any kind. If money is an issue to the buyer, it was an issue before the GT4 launched. Those guys were not paying the 997 GT3 prices anyway.

Mezger or detuned 3.8L 9A1? Full suspension setup or rear strut setup? A great manual or a beefed up CaymanS manual?

There is exuberance now, but that will subside.

i'm thinking mostly no.

But...
997.1 GT3 with say 12-15K miles you can get for about 85K + Tax no warranty
GT4 base model 85K + tax with warranty.

tempting thought process if you ask me. the negative is the depreciation of the new car.

quite different driving experience between mid-engined and rear engined

in my mind, not comparable with one another

Was thinking of buying playing and flipping before getting hosed. Now, at this price for what's clearly just the beginning of a mass-produced series? No thank you.

Porsche answered the manual demand. Not the manual GT3 demand. It won't be the same customers.

Perhaps in addition too a GT3....Boxster Spyder and GT3 in the same garage was not uncommon. Same will apply to a new hot rod open lightweight Boxster not so much in a cayman I suspect.

For someone in the market looking for a used GT3 I think buying a car that is very quick and has great handling with a full warranty for equal or less price (997.1 and .2 respectively) I think this is a great bargain.

The GT4 is expected to match the 997.2 GT3 N-ring time, which I think is amazing if they can achieve that with a detuned 3.8L C2S engine.

Now, does this mean current 997 GT3 owners will jump ship, I don't think so (maybe a few). But if I was in the market to buy a used 997 GT3, honestly I'd hold off until the car magazines do their test drives and read a couple of reviews about the GT4.

Before I bought my GT3, I looked at a 996 GT3 and compared the numbers to a 997 C2S. the numbers were similar in performance, price, etc. I chose the 997C2S, and then attempted to add as many go fast parts as I could. I still could not get any faster then a 996 GT3 on the track, and in the end made the move. I would rather not own a Porsche if I sold my 997 GT3.

The GT4 is a great looking car, but I am not lining up to buy one.

The idea of a GT4 was presented to me by my dealer when I was looking at 997.2 GT3's. While it sounded appealing for reasons raised above. However I was looking for the purest 911 experience so the answer was simple. It is interesting how many have wished for the 997.2 GT3 bubble to break-not sure why? History will judge this car and the market will reflect its price.

Ideally, both. In a perfect world, they would offer a PDK GT4 and I could DD it. I've owned a Cayman variant before and it is a very different driving experience. Really enjoy both platforms. Right now, planning on adding.

I think this pretty much sums it up. Without the Ring part for me. That I don't care about...
I'll definitely hold off for reviews!
I wanted a 997 GT3,but not at the current going rate. Let's see if the prices on those go down a bit and I might ****** one too.

This is more like what BMW is doing with its M performance line. Somewhere between a regular BMW and a true M car.
The engine is already available from the 991S. They detuned it so that shows their motivation. They also kept it manual only, even though PDK-S is quicker. PDK-S may make it quicker than 991 GTS so they skipped it. Cool car - more like the 981 Cayman R+.
I would not be surprised if they came out with a GT4 RS version with the power kit 3.8 detuned to around 415-420hp and charge another $10-$15K.
Porsche - great at marketing.

This is where my thinking is right now. I LOVE the Cayman driving experience, and the GT4 is a pretty wicked looking Cayman. Maybe leave my GT3RS parked and appreciating, except for the rare sunny days, and drive the GT4.

We'll see ....

I had a Cayman S before the 997.1. It was a great driving car until I drove the GT3, after which it felt seriously underpowered. I will not part with the .1, but will seriously consider adding GT4 after reviews and driving one. Mid-engine platform is different in a good way.
