Default Cleaning cosmoline off the engine?

Anyone have suggestions on an effective way of cleaning the cosmoline off the engine case? Any products that work? My engine is split and I'd like to clean up the case prior to reassembly...

Thx...

If it is truly the same stuff as found on vintage surplus war rifles, any good degreaser or mineral spirits will dissolve it. The warmer everything is, the better it will come off.

Check the 993 Forum. They are experts over there. Or buy a 991. No more Cosmoline.

A mix of hot water and kerosene. I took delivery of a BMW M3 and asked the dealer to not remove the cosmoline (off the paint) to prevent them putting swirls in the paint.

If you are a DIY-er, a gallon of Zep Citrus degreaser from Home Depot and a good pressure washer works wonders...and doesn't leave that nasty kerosene-y stench.

Stoner XENIT Natural Citrus Mold Cleaner then wash with any mild cleaner such as ZEP Citrus.

It works great on the inner fenders, too. Before & after...

Looks great.

The other options is dry ice blasting, but expensive.

I used XENIT. Works great but I bet the Zep stuff does too and you'll probably save some $.
