Thoughts on going 997 GT3 to 991 GTS?
After many years on the corporate ladder, I am mulling over a change in direction in starting a new business. I currently have too many cars and am looking to simplify, both from a cost and complexity perspective...but mainly to satisfy my wife's "requirements" (most important part!).
I currently have 3 911s, the 997.1 GT3–which I consider to be my all-time favorite, and love dearly; a 991 C4S PDK which I can live without, but has a back seat for my 2 young kids; and a '70 911E which is a restoration project. I also have a truck, which was purchased primarily to tow the GT3 to the track.
Tracking is pretty important to me, but owning something that is both fun/capable at the track and flexible enough for everyday life (ie back seats, not on Hoosiers) is coming into the forefront. So, my thinking is: sell GT3, 991 C4S, and truck–all for a 991 GTS. Decent horsepower, good(ish) suspension, can probably run MPSCs for track duty, warranty...etc.
I know the answer I'll probably get from this board–but is this stupid? Crazy? Has anyone on here gone from a GT3 to a 997 GTS?
Sometimes I can't believe I'm even talking about parting with the GT3... so be gentle in this moment of weakness…

Original motor went up last year-threw a rod. Replaced it with a 3.8 Cup motor from Autometrics. It's a Cup engine up to and including the heads. Stock VarioCam and intake, however.

This solution also leaves you with more $$ in your pocket for your new business (vs. trading the 7gt3 for a GTS).

Keep the cup-engined 7gt3 and the '70 911, sell the c4s and the truck. In a couple of years, the two young kids will be too big (and too old) to enjoy being cramped in a 991 seat behind daddy. In the mean time, take them for rides in the old 911. Put Nittos or PSS tires on the 7gt3 and drive it to/from the track. This solution also leaves you with more $$ in your pocket for your new business (vs. trading the 7gt3 for a GTS).

Post pics of your GT3 lol. I would say find a way to sell everything and keep the GT3 and move up to a GTS. But I would buy the GTS now if I could afford to spend 120-130k on a car.

A 991 GTS would be very fast at the track I imagine. Probably quicker than a .2 GT3. But you'd be tracking a street car without a roll bar, harness or HANS. Now that I have this safety equipment in my GT3 I'm not sure I would go back to tracking a car without it.
If you could possibly drive the GT3 to the track... I'd sell the truck, put the restoration project on hold and ride the 991 lease to the end then make a decision.

I have a 997.2 GT3RS which I drive once a month maybe. It doesn't really depreciate as with your car so I would keep the GT3. There really isn't anything else like it. I get it, the GTS looks great but after a few months, you'll prolly get bored. Not too many people get bored of the GT3. If you do decide to get a 991, wait for the facelift at least.

So he again ends up with three 911s except now he replaces the new one (c4s) with a newer, and more expensive one (gts)? Sort of completely opposite of OP's goal to cut down, simplify, and keep wife happy while allocating $$ to a new business.
Getting rid of the c4s on leasetrader is both the best and financially soundest option.
