Default GT3/RS control arms same as Carrera/S?

Perhaps a silly assumption but are GT3/RS rear control arms the same as normal Carrera/S control arms?

I ***** nilly purchased a set of RS rear brake ducts only to be a bit surprised tonight that there didn't appear to be a way to mount them. Xenon leveler gets in the way on the drivers side. Didn't bother trying to fit passenger side after that.

Anyone know if there is a difference in control arms or am I just mounting incorrectly.

Different control arms altogether.

Also note the .1 RS and .2 RS brake ducts are different. Not sure what you bot. You may be able to cut/fabricate the soft plastic of the .1's to make them fit. .2's are made of hard plastic and the mounting points don't flex at all so give that up and post a FS ad instead

*****! I swore they were the same control arm. RSS replacement arms are the same, no?

These are the parts I purchase:

This site seems to indicate that they fit all 996/997 cars: http://www.carnewal.com/products/P87...ar-Brake-Ducts

Even for RSS arms you have to buy an extra $85 bracket to mount the duct as it cannot mount the same as OEM.

My understanding is the geometry of the arms is the same. The difference is the GT3 control arms are split so you can use shims between the inner link and the arm to adjust camber. The sizing and moldings could very well be different so the bracket provided for the GT3 doesn't really fit that well. Regarding the ducts, .1RS didn't have rear ducts. .2 cars had the above pictured. I have .2 ducts on the rear of my .1. There should be a way to make the ducts work, you might have to fab the bracket, maybe out of some sheet metal if it won't work, but it 'should' fit I swear I've seen pics of people using these on other 997 cars. Yes, the RSS require their bracket as their arms have very different shape from OEM.

^ RS rear LCA are 2 piece. NB GT3 are 1 piece. Both cars use the same brake duct and attach the same way. The shims do not affect anything.

Other than the rear LCA's being split where the shims go, is the shape/design any different? Different placement of litronic leveler perhaps. Just trying to figure out the difference and if these definitely won't work. I could rig them a bit I suppose but really don't want to hack too much.

That I'm unsure of, I've seen them both side by side but they look similar in shape, but could be different measurements. Regarding the Litronic connection, my car doesn't have it, so no connection or I'd go look. But, IIRC, on the split arms, the litronic level inserts between the mono ball and arm, it's a small plate that goes into the same spot as lower control arm shims and has an ear to connect to the litronic level control unit.

This thread has a picture of a split RSS arm and a standard 1 piece LCA.

It's really that litronic connection. It seems to go RIGHT where the bracket for the duct need to be.

The 997.2 GT3RS/GT2RS come with the new generation rear brake ducts. These brake ducts have a clip that bolts the ducts to the LCA. Two types of clips are sold depending what LCAs you have. It does not make a difference whether you have 1 piece or two piece arms. One set of clips (997.575.631.90 and 997.575.632.90) works with either the 1 piece or two piece LCAs that have the rough textured finish to them. The other set of clips (997.575.631.91 and 997.575.632.91) is used with the 2 piece LCAs that have the "smooth" finish to them. These include the late model 997.2 GT3RS, 997Cup or 997RSR. The differences in the smooth LCAs are that the street .2GT3RS has rubber in the bushings, the 997Cup has a solid monoball and TA bushing, while the 997RSR has a monoball inner end, solid TA bushing and a replaceable outer monoball end. Here is a picture of the ducts used on the 997RSR arms. The part number for the ducts is 997.575.531.90 and 997.575.532.90 and for the screws it's 999.073.516.01 (4 screws are required). The RSS arms won't work with the OEM clips because they are too wide. On the 1 piece LCAs, the clips go right next to the litronic brackets. On the 2 piece arms the litronic shim is used. Hope that helps...

My arms are of course the rough textured type but again, not GT3 specific but regular Carrera S.

These are the ducts/clips:

Those are the correct clips for the standard 1 piece arms. The body of the LCAs are all the same shape whether used on the 996/7GT3, Cayman, Carrera, etc. I think the only difference is the density of the rubber used in the bushings depending on car type. Those should be a direct bolt on.

i have motorsports LCA's on my car. For some reason even the rs style brackets dont really fit on one side of the car. I broke the bolt hole when trying to put that one on. Used the other bolt hole then drilled a couple of tiny holes in the duct and wrapped stainless tie wire around the LCA. Went through the holes to make sure it doesnt slip off.
