Default 997.2 GT3 has 2x downforce over 997.1?

"The new GT3 offers increased grip and stability at high speeds, courtesy of specific modifications to the car's aerodynamics which have increased downforce front and rear to such an extent that the overall air pressure pushing down on the car is more than twice as great as on the former model. At the same time, the new 'Aerodynamics Package' gives the GT3 a distinctive appearance which is further accentuated by new Bi-Xenon headlights, LED rear light clusters, and modified air intakes and outlets."

I can't speak for .1 vs .2 on the non-RS but I can speak to .2 non-RS vs .2 RS. The downforce difference is very significant...I would be able to pop the clutch into neutral going down hill and gain speed in the non-RS...not the case with the RS as it actually slows down. The rear feels more planted on the RS.

What speed are you talking about here?

I run max wing on my .2 at Autobahn and it makes a difference. Car is more planted under braking and through the faster corners. Max speeds are slower but laps are faster.

Interesting. Wonder what .1rs is with max wing and cup front lip. Maybe similar to .2 non rs. Wings are about same size.

Also fronts are pretty similar minus lip .1 to .2. Where is all that extra front coming from?

The OP referenced an article last updated Feb 2009 about the GT3, not the RS.

What other aero changes were made between the .1 and .2? I don't understand how downforce from the rear spoiler could be "more than twice as great." The area doesn't seem to be increased more than 25%.

I always considered the .1 spoiler to be better looking. Maybe Porsche designed for form not function.

Thanks for the photos Shake.

Look at the pics, the wing is clearly raked at a much greater angle, and also is likely larger in area. The Cd went from 0.29 on the .1 to 0.32 on the .2 - which is a massive increase.

Going 60-90mph going down fairly steep highways like towards the Nevada/California stateline off the 15.

I have taller wing uprights (about 3.5 inches higher than stock) and I have the front canards just like the 4.0RS with a cup lip so I'm putting down good downforce.
