Track Day at Spa.

Good fun following a train of 996/7 GT2/3s. Was about 5 car lengths behind that column and powering out of Lower Pouhon (a full-power corner where GT cars manage 200kmh+) when the last car in front lost its hoses and started dumping coolant on the line and right into the Pif-Paf braking zone.

Left me no choice--not brake and hit the tire wall in the front, or nudge the brakes and try to survive... I made a stupid call in the heat of the moment but came out with the best possible outcome. A spin-and-half, two flat spotted fronts, and so much tire smoke that the marshalls thought I was on fire.

Can't say the same for the poor 944 behind me or the two E46s after him. It was total carnage by the time this video finished. Track got red-flagged for a full hour thereafter.

And guess what? The culprit Porsche kept driving and left a slick trail through the next 4 turns--all the way past Blanchimont

I heard on some European tracks, victims may have recourse against negligent drivers causing harm to others. I sure hope this galactic-grade **** gets served right.

That sucks, but it's the risk we all take stepping foot on track. I've hit coolant too at Thunderhill, from a GT3 also, but it was due to a main blown coolant hose. Hit oil in the past too from a 993 turbo at Sears Point.

While I agree that coolant fitting should be addressed, I don't think it would hold up in court. Even the NHTSA didn't identify fittings to be defective. Just saying.

Watch, we are all going to end up with air cooled 90's cheaters.
Easy to fix after crash, built like brick ****houses, no water pumping, no problem.

They drive just like GT3's and last better.

But they don't have the option of turning on the nannies which means I would have to learn how to drive on the track from scratch.

The uneducated skeptic in me thinks it'll cost a fortune to source/fix/equip a 930/993 for track duty. Dunno why but couldn't care for the bulbous form of the 964 even though many think that's the Helen of Troy... (or whatever gal/guy/animal fits your fancy)

I've had my share of air cooled. They certainly have a place in Porsche history, but they are antiques.

IMO, water cooling is the best thing that ever happened to the 911.

Nah they blow oil hoses instead.

Been on the receiving end of blown coolant lines. No fun. Glad it was only your tires that paid the price.

Rule #1: don't run antifreeze on track.

Haven't we all?
Blown engines, blown coolant hoses, blown oil lines ( at least they make for fires so the others are warned)

Makes me think cheap is better for crashing due to mechanicals.

Cheap disposable track cars. Hence the Civic because it's a frickin Honda. New motor from Honda with oil pump and baffled pan is $6k installed

I said cheap, but disposable works also.
If I ever hit something with Mustang I just take the plate off and leave it there.
