Default 997 GT3/RS Overpriced?? Is anyone actually paying the premium?

I understand that the new GT3 is only coming in PDK but is it really necessary to jack up the prices on these cars? I traded my 997.2 GT3 last year for a 6 speed manual Valentino Balboni Gallardo. Great car but I missed the GT3 and overall I think I made a mistake. Ended up selling the Gallardo and have the money sitting in the bank to go toward the next toy. I ordered a 991 GT3 in the beginning of 2013 so I'm eager to get this, but with all the BS that's happened to them I am going nuts in the meantime waiting for a new car. My car was supposed to be completed in my possession by the beginning of June and it has been postponed until Nov/Dec and I am receiving a 2015 model.

Regardless, I have been looking for a car to drive in the meantime and I keep going back to another 997.2 GT3/RS but will not pay 120k for a GT3 or 160k for an RS (with over 10k miles). Can anyone actually show me proof of someone paying these ridiculous prices!? I have seen the same cars on eBay and autotrader for MONTHS and they aren't selling for whats being asked. Does anyone else feel my frustration? I realize its rare and its the last of the 6M Gt3 but does this REALLY justify the 10/20% price increase??? last year I could get a .2 RS for 130 and a .2 GT3 for 100 and when I make these offers on the cars I inquire I get laughed at. C'mon....

I just want to hear from someone who has an intelligent and objective stand point that has something more to say than "last of the 6spd, get f**ked"

This has been an interesting year for all 911s. Long noses, 964,993 and of course the new classic: GT3.

All have gone up in demand and value.
You will be hard pressed to find a low priced example. They have been scarce and trading hands for stronger money then last year.

It sucks if you are buying, great if you own or selling.

Due to the 6 speed it should depreciate very little over this yearso at least if you buy a good car you willsee most of your money back if sell within the first year. Just have to up the budget.

Alas,it is hard to pay 10-20k over what it used to trade for last year but that is the nature of the porsche market.

I feel your pain and appreciate your frustration. You should feel confident in stepping up to a .2 RS at current prices once you study the market. (other than ebay)

Someone posted a 2010 RS that sold recently for $160 or 170...if not on this site it was on F chat under the Porsche section.

The 4.0 RSes are SELLING in the mid to high $300s. The 4.0s are bringing up the 3.8s. (and 3.6 RSes). The 2011 GT3RS 4.0 was a $200k new BTW.

I had a 2011 Lambo 570-4. Awesome car to be sure. Before that a 2007 Gallardo Spyder...and then a Ferrari Scuderia....and a California. NONE were as fun to drive or offer the same level overall absolute all involving joy as my 2010 RS.

The RS was always meant to be a car nerds car. Car nerds like to shift and hear/ feel the car. The new GT3 is less of what the nerds like. The nerds have voted and the 997 RS is an instant classic. The trend is continued appreciation as the modern RSes achieve the same status as the 73 RSes.

Unless Porsche offers their new RS with a manual etc the momentum towards the 997.2 RS as a cult classic will only increase.

I am going to add to my hoard next year. I am looking for something I can beat on and take to track events. After considering a 991 GT3 I put a deposit in a 2015 C7 Z06. Fact is I am not alone. Porsches pricing/ value proposition is WAY out of whack. A 991 GT3 with decent options is close to $150k. Word on the street is the RS version will be over $200k.

Read up on the new Z06 with the Z07 package. Set aside your Corvette biases (I had these as well). The new Z06 is simply epic. Its going to reset the bar for what a true performance car is all about. Not just for Porsche but for Ferrari etc. .....Did I mention the Z06 with CF brakes, 630HP etc is under $100k?

Anyway...

if u want picky and like virgins then rs is 160-200 car. I personally paid that range recently.

if u will take white blue gray with any options And a few track days an rs is a 135-140 car. I arranged two such cars just recent one as recent as this Monday.

there are different rs's. I made many connections fir buyer sellers. there ate real buyers and real sellers willing buyers and willing sellers. then there are whiners (not u, just in general)...

a blue rs is 200
a white rs is not 200
most cars are 140-145
my is 135 incredibly cln but not for he faint of heart.

if u can describe clearly what type of RS u want I can give u a definitely price on that RS

btw mkt is higher than last yr
I sold my 8000 mile rs at 125
bought 15000 mile rs this yr at 135

my first 40 was MSRP 189
my second was used and paid 260
before it went crazy

and many gt nuts I know are frantically buyin them up. three guys here in Bay Area each have 4 7.2 rs in addition to 4,0. another jut recently added 6gt, 7.2rs to his 7.1rs

now is time to buy and keep them

Best bet is to toss out a wtb thread and see what you get. RLers tends to have more realistic expectations on price but don't expect it to be less than pricing a year ago probably flat.

The car is either worth it to you or not. There's no sense in complaining about it. Good luck with your search. I know of a ~5k white stripper 2011 GT3 that's coming available. PM if you want to know about it.

Prices are high and I believe they are going to keep going up , I just traded my 2011 GT3 with 4900 miles and picked up a GT3RS with 5500 miles , I always wanted the RS but with these prices going crazy I decided to pull the trigger now on the RS , I think Mooty hit it right on the spot with the prices , good luck on your search , here's the Gt3 and the GT3RS

Thank you for the insight. My biggest worry is buying it now, then the car tanks if the RS is manual.
