Hoosiers splitting
Just had a second Hoosier r6 (rear) split on me. A 2-3 inch split opened up where the sidewall meets the main surface. Tires had about 15 heat cycles. Is this normal? A fluke? Did I do something wrong?

Was running 34 hot at both Sebring and road Atlanta. Used to go a little more...but numerous gt3 guys and a race team said to keep them at 32-34 hot.

From what I heard Sebring is bad on tires. I usually run 36-38 hot. How low was cold pressures. Maybe 1st 2 sessions run 33- 34 cold and release pressure. Besides u ain't going to be all that quick ir just warming up the tires. Mike

I've seen this happen on r6 on gt3 rs a handful of times...too many in my opinion
Road Atlanta, Sebring, road America all had it
heavy car and u probably need to bring them up to temp
On my antique we start at 20psi and finish at 29psi....but it's a light car

Have run numerous sets with no issues. I also run 34 hot but have read that hot pressures should be around 40 on heavier rear cars like GT3.
Also keep in mind where you purchased your tires and where they were stored. The tires are not meant to be stored in cold temps especially freezing. There have been batches that have split because the tires when delivered were in cold temps or stored in cold temps prior to delivery.

I bet it's running hard while tires are not up to temp yet. I see so many guys go straight out and trying mailing fast laps on 1st 3 laps around the track. If you are racing and have nice tire budget or sponsorship well go for it but at a DE I don't get it. It take anywhere depending on wealth 3-4 laps to gradually bring tires up to temp. then you get 2-3 laps for hot laps but could over heat tire and then need to back off somewhat for a lap or 2..then the DE session is over. I've had that problem in the past a few times. You are simply not running them with enough pressure. Check the Hoosier web site for confirmation.
Like you, I felt nice and safe at lower pressures. The tires just exude confidence around 32psi. However, this happens. Pump them up to 38 or 40 and that confidence goes out the window, but the tire actually lasts.
BTW: I switched to Yoko Advans. Less confidence, especially on the first lap or two, but more ultimate grip and better lap times.

Thanks randy. I was running slightly higher but after speaking with deputydog and a guy supporting zotz...they convinced me to run a little lower.
Also guilty of jumping on them two quickly. Need to let them take their time coming up. Car weighed in at 3036 lbs with no driver and a half tank of fuel. It not light compared to your blue race car.
Will try and run them a little bit higher
Thanks so much!

They stay I garage and it never gets below 50 here is fl inside the garage. Got a them delivered in may last year
Guessing it has to do with no treating them nicely and not letting them come to temp. Just mounted some new ones and will practice patience.
I almost prefer my nittos. They never seem to care what I do to them and they just last last and last. Probably not fast enough any way to justify the ho hos.
