I got a referral for Beeline Glass in Freemont from the "Godfather". Called them for a quote and they seemed on the ball. Probably going to use them beginning of the year.

So after having this all setup, the glass installer ran my Vin and then reported back to my insurance that they cant change the windshield because it requires removal of the dash and they suggest only a dealer to do it as they arent comfortable doing so. Has anyone ever heard this before? FWIW, this glass installer was Mooty Approved lol

Spoke to Gunther at Porsche Fremont. Dash removal not required but he said thy maybe saying that because of the way the glass shops have to cut the adhesive by hand where as the dealer has a special tool that is like piano wire that gets slid in to cut the adhesive.
Gonna call around to a couple other glass shops to see what they say.
So far, glass shops for oem glass, cost is looking like 1065. Dealer is 1500

I've yet to see any car dealer that does this on their own, they contract these jobs out. Special tool? Hmm.... Only advantage a dealer might be a guarantee it's done right, maybe that is worth $400?

I specifically asked Gunther do u guys contract it out and have someone come to the dealer to handle glass replacements. He told me no, it's done in house and they have done a lot of them.

Not so horrible. My insurance as most do, have a lower deductible for windshield repair/replacement, though the max they will pay is 750 based on their replacement cost numbers for oem glass, so worse case at least half is being covered. Most likely will do the dealer for peace of mind it's done right. Plus there's a clear plex installer right down the street that I will be going straight to
