Oil Change
Recently purchased another watercooled 911. The last time the oil was changed was about a year ago but it has only been driven around 2K miles. No track use and it was changed with Mobil 1. Question is should I change the oil since it has been a year or can I wait since there hasn't been that many miles since the last change? Thanks in advance

About the only thing worse than year old oil, is year old oil that has been rarely driven.

It's only at DE events in the intermediate group so I don't go nuts with the car like the guys that go really fast. I've only been to 6 track days with the car and half of them I left after the 3rd session and many of those laps I hit traffic so I wasn't going all out.

1,200 miles is about 13 -14 hours on most tracks, less on the high speed ones.
I've sent my used race oil to Blackstone Labs for analysis on multiple occasions and each time the oil comes back looking close to perfect and they recommend that I push my changes out to 3,200 miles or so. I use Redline oil in my race cars usually, but got a similar recommendation when I sent them used Mobil 1 after about 750 miles.
Changing earlier gives piece of mind but modern oils in modern engines have significantly better longevity than many of the old guidelines that have been tossed around for years.

A rarely driven car builds up water contaminates from condensation on the internal surfaces of the engine and this reacts chemically to make acids along with fuel wash breaking down the lubrication properties. So it needs more oil changes than a daily driven- high mileage car.
Its your choice but I would CHANGE THE OIL.
