Trofeo R tire damage, use or defect?
I haven't seen wear like I currently have on the front right Trofeo R on my GT2. Is this from use or is it a defect? It looks like a big chunk just fell off.

Exactly the same thing happened to my Trofeo (not R) rear on my car (a new tire too) - do search and you will see. My tire went back to Pirelli, but they never came back to me or gave me new one - which is why I will be Michelin or Dunlop man!

Had a similar incident about a month ago. Small pock mark, then a straight line separation across the thread. Luckily caught it after my 2nd session on track. Called tire vendor (Frisby Race Tire; great by the way), they contacted Pirelli and agreed to ship me a new one. Week later, brand new one arrived - i Just had to ship them back mine.
Seems there have been a few separating out there. maybe a bad batch? Either way, I'm guessing the vendor relationship with Pirelli must count for something. Will be watching the remaining 3 very carefully next time at TH.

Looks just like the issues I had with Toyo R888. Sliver chunk coming off the tire and a separation line across the tire. Toyo didn't replace the 1st tire that did this but I bought 4 others from Tire Rack and they stepped up with Toyo and ended up refunding me money on 4 tires. I sense switched to Nitto NT01 and the issues is gone. Also I never had this issue on Toyo RA1 or Michelin Sport Cups.

I've fitted these tyres to my GT3RS MKi with Bilstein MDS suspension, camber front around 2.5 deg. negative, rear about 2.2 deg. negative.
I did a trackday at the Hockenheimring 4 weeks ago in searing heat. Before that I drove 300km on German Autobahn to the event even hitting 311km/h. The only problem I had was that the tyre moved on the rim so now I need to rebalance them.
Cheers

Overheated the outside of the tire. You do need to run more negative camber. With the Trofeos, you need at least -2.5 on the front and -2.0 rear.
I went thru 2 sets with zero issues and they stuck like glue! I did run the proper camber though. The outsides of the fronts are at risk with minimum camber.

I had the same problem with new Corsa's. Three inch wide de lamination around the whole tire. Right front. No replacement available. Said tire was over heated, but I don't believe it was. Allan

problem is you guys are running street tires on street cars with street setups... ON THE TRACK.
change the setup on your cars and run track tires on the track. duh.

My car has a track alignment.
Front: -2.6 deg camber, 8.1 deg caster, 0 toe
Rear: -2.3 deg camber, 0.17 toe
AND, I use a pyrometer to measure temps across the tires and I am usually within 10 deg across the tire.
"duh."
