Anyone who can lay an elbow or a shoulder down on the track surface while doing triple digits is a lunatic.

I used to be a big fan, especially in the 500cc 2 Stroke era-and while the factory works bikes continue to be amazing, there's a special excitement in the Irish racing, it's almost like their version of running with the bulls-downright dangerous, through public roads. Less known than the Isle of Man TT, but various circuits like the Ulster, Northwest 200 and others

When you are there with your feet in the road you could put your arm out and touch them as the pass at 190mph... the pressure wave then wall of sound, heat and smell hit. It will always be etched on my mind. When your racing you just don't see them, just focused on your braking and turn points because there's no margin for error.

What you can't tell is how poor the road surfaces are with gravel, cracks, pot holes, shiny metal man-hole covers and slippery white line- you don't get that on a race track!
