Currently driving from Vero Beach to Fresno, in Albuquerque now. Stayed in El Paso last night and my first thought was, wouldn't want to stay here with a Porsche! Continue on to Las Cruzes at least. I would also advise not doing it with 3 small kids and 2 dogs. But looks like you bought the right car to avoid that. Fooey on the people who say ship and don't drive. This is most people's and my favorite Porsche. Enjoy every second of it. I know I will in a couple of years. Remember, the journey is the destination. Congrats and safe travels!

Spray the front of the car with Plastidip to protect it from bugs and road debris. This spray on rubber paint is easy to apply and will protect your car while out on the road. Just peel it off when you get home. This should be mandatory for all long road trips!

The beautiful thing about a road trip is to see new things and the unexpected.
On my way from California to Toronto I came across this character in Michigan.....

thanks!
First off, thank you for taking the time to post your advice. What a great community!
I'm packing the V1 and will bring the small jack, ear plugs, caffeine, music, etc as advised. Not so sure about the muscle relaxants as that shows up in the urine and I may need to provide a sample if things don't go well.
Just downloaded trapster - thanks!
I'll ask the Greek about the alignment.
I WAS planning to stop in El Paso for the night! So no bueno on that one, huh? I've stayed there overnight a couple times before without realizing how sketchy it was...didn't look very different from parts of LA...but I wouldn't bring a porsche to said parts of LA. Ok, I'll keep going into New Mexico.
I'm a knife guy, so 1x machete - checked.
As for the shipping option - it's definitely the wiser option in terms of financial cost especially when accounting for the risk of accidents / road hazards / police. Also, having just finished a canyon trip all the way up to Glacier...this isn't the prettiest drive as I've done it several times...but somehow I'm still looking forward to 36 hours with 3 pedals and a big grin in my dream car

trip suggestions
Suggestions:
1. Bring a friend for security and to stay with the car if you get a flat in the middle of nowhere.
2. Bring two pistols, one for you, one for him.
3. Be careful in remote gas stations at night.
4. Watch fuel. Once past Houston some stations may be far apart and the stock tank is ridiculously small.
5. Have fun. I did it bringing my car from Phoenix. Great drive.

Ship it -- even if you have to eat up the extra cost of the unused plane ticket.
And it's not just about the financials. To maximize enjoyment, use your tool (GT3) for its intended purpose. It was not made for highway cruising. Also, good scotch is best enjoyed by sipping, not by choking it down. I probably could not wait to get out and away from the car after spending three full days in it. Why would I want to feel like that about my new toy so soon after I got it?
Just my $.02 and some angles that you may have missed.
