I love my GT3's sound but it still doesn't hold a candle to the Ferrari in that department. That is just sweet beautiful music.

On another topic, watching the videos and all those 'expert' downshifts made me sad all over again about the new GT3.

No one disputes that turbos rob sound. But I guess I already got the answer to the rest of the package.

Thing is 997 GT2 costs the same as a 997.1 GT3 RS in the UK, would it be compelling for anyone with a 7.1 RS to switch to a GT2? Has anyone done it? or is it just tubo guys..

What is the profile of a Gt2 buyer? what makes someone buy a Gt2 over a Gt3 in the circumstance I described above?
That's a funny question, because my friends and I ask the exact opposite- given the similar pricing with similar spec on the used market, what sane person would pick the NA car? Lower power, lower potential, higher production numbers, more gaudy wing, so many reasons to pick the GT2 over the NA car. The only real reason we can think of, is ignorance. Or to impress their ignorant friends with a "3" that is a bigger number than a "2" which is a question I get all the time- "Isn't a GT3 faster because the number is higher?" To which I have to explain the origins of the naming- that the classes these cars were originally homologated to were their respective names, and that the GT2 class was a faster class than the GT3.

Great vid. If that's a track vacuum, I want that job. I drove my GT2 to the Dentist last week to get a root canal. Definitely a different sound. :-) Sounds like a normal matter/anti-matter chamber to me.

Lightweight flywheels give the best throttle response.

Hi khooni,

Get the GT2 - its a different planet then the sypder. I know 997 Gt3 and 997 GT2 - I own both..

1. Sound: the GT2 sound from inside the cabin isnt so far away from GT3 sound..from outside its a big difference however. Despite that, keep in mind that orginal exhaust gt3 at idle is also a very moderate sound.

2. turbo lag: there is no turbo lag. The GT3 has until 5000rpm its "turbo lag". Yes it sounds better, and the real adavantage of the GT3 for me is the higher rpm band..yes, this is a real difference. On straigt line - or track - it will be very difficult for any 997.1 - 997.2 GT3 /RS to hold a GT2. Only the 4.0 could keep up..and even then maybe..not sure.

Advice: test drive that GT2 and you will see...

Collector - Thanks. It is truly flawless at 2400 miles. I am having a great time with it but plan to take care of it for sure. Can't quit smiling.

Evo issue 117.
comparo 7GT2 v 3Gt2 v CGT v 7.1RS

timeline.. GT2 launch.. Nurburgring time 7.32

7GT2 has CGT covered for cross country speed, monstrously rapid
3Gt2 just as exciting, more raw, but 7gt2 much faster and more challenging to drive hard
BUt

7.1Rs more balanced, cheaper and lighter/more agile.
engine complements chassis rather than testing it relentlessly

winner: 7.1RS

it also managed 3rd in 2008 car of the year behind the GTR and lambo LP560-4

I think I wouldn't give up the 7.2RS for 1 but now that the prices have come down a bit maybe the spyder.... the word- monster haunts me............
