Lots of good input here. If my 6GT3 was as well equipped as yours it would be staying and my 993 would be going. I already have a mid-engine car (Fiat) for fun and occasional track although I am thinking of a F430 (3 pedal) to compliment the 993. Anyway lots of good info, fun to read

Don't let that 996/GT3 go unless they peel it from your cold dead hands.. They are exceptional. And they don't make them any more

Default Here's a thought!

I take everyone's advice and keep the 996 GT-3!Then in the near future obtain the 981 Cayman S .That will give me something new to mess with and I know the 981 chassis is excellent ,at some point in the future perhaps I would put the 991 S motor in it,sounds like fun to me!Thanks again for all the excellent thoughtful ideas!HOM

Regarding the 981 Cayman has anyone put a 991 engine in one yet ?What is PVT?Is there an LSD option? TIA HOM
996 GT3 is more fun than any 997, including the 4.0RS. Fast <> Fun.

The 981 body is lighter than the 987 body. Most Cayman R have radio and A/C so the weight difference between the 981 and a typical Cayman R is negligible (around 20 lbs). The 981 understeers less than the 987. 981 has more power, and finally they added legroom compared to the cramped 987.

PTV gives you a mechanical LSD + software to apply brakes to the inside rear and help rotation.

Sport suspension gives you the -20mm drop, and stiffer springs, shocks, sway bars, it is the CaymanR/BoxSpyder suspension.

Avoid PDK unless you want boring, and 55 lbs penalty behind the rear axle (bad weight).

For under $70k with a 4 years warranty, and the money combined on your 996 GT3 track car + Cayman is still less than a clean 997.2 GT3 RS 3.8.

Strip the 996 GT3 even more, put the SpeedWC Aerokit they ran with the 996GT3Cup, re-gear, eat the other 5% Dell mentioned.

Crawford made them. GMG may have some spares. Simple stuff: 996 Cup Carbon bumper (or modified 996 GT3 street bumper with the inner ducting) + the carbon splitter, the deck lid, super tall uprights, and the gigantic wing they ran.

The 996 GT3 Cup aero is fine, but why settle for less?

Great thread. Just thinking about the same and plan on keeping 6-3 forever. In slicks can even give peter trakcar a run for his money in his 4.0. Lol.

I have similar upgrades. Just can't strip it yet. Not yet.

996 to 997 is the same car but with more power and small changes so I think keeping your 996 and going to the future 991 is an option.
