Default 996 GT-3 owner needs next car advice

So I have owned an 04 GT-3 for almost 7 years.We do at least 10 -12 track events a year and I have slowly developed the car :Euro GT3 seats ,roll bar,harnesses ,Numeric shifter,cup cables,coolant fittings,LWFW & Clutch,Guards differential,and MCS two ways ,850 F &1050lb R springs.
Love the car ,love the no traction control,I really like simple and have had nothing but great times learning more about driving some what quickly.
I wonder what you guys think ?The pool ,in my mind ,includes :997.1RS,997.2 GT3,997.2 RS and oh yeah the 991 GT3.
Just watched Chris Harris in the 991 GT 3 and was nodding my head yes accepting the PDK and then I saw the shot of the gauges and RIGHT THERE was P,R,N,D !!!!!
What I think I want is fun to drive and a new challenge a new car to learn .Please everyone give me your input you will be a great help!TIA HOM

I'm in same boat... Looking forward to responses.

Why no GT3 Cup option on your list?

I worry that the 991 won't challenge us much.
Stamp throttle stamp brakes.

After 2 weekends are we down to eking out the last few 10th Fine tuning our newly acquired left foot braking skills?

Than there is the unknown depreciation and durability and complexity on track.

Take the 997.2 RS and see how the 991's do. You can always get one with some depreciation after the prove themselves.

Default Trakcar and Blake

Trakcar ,you are expressing my concern exactly !I guess that it is clear the 997.2rs is a fun engaging car and my experience with any thing I have driven with the PDK is that it isn't I don't think I want a car with a possible automatic shifting profile. However sometimes I think I am just a cranky old man too!
Blake the Cups consumable package is just too much for me and you really almost need a tech with you at the track which I can't afford or abide !Thanks everybody so far for the excellent input HOM

The 996 GT3 is so sweet on the edge at the track. I have no complaints on how she drives. She may be the "old GT3", least HP, not the best looking as the newer GT3s, but I enjoy the challenge trying to be faster on track then all the guys with the newer more expensive GT3s. Can't wait for the PDK folks to show up at the track. Many people who sell the 996GT3 regret it.
If I had the funds and was forced to look for something else it would be the 997 GT3RS 4.0 six speed manual.
You did say "great times learning more about driving some what quickly". Maybe you can find more speed from your driving. Do you have any complaints with the cars driving dynamics now?

Default 4porsch

I really love the car and am always trying to chase down the newer GT cars .When I went to the 850/1050 spring set the rear of the car became positively benign .This spring I felt the need to reduce high speed understeer and fortunately ran into a chassis guy who knew what tuning a suspension is about(I sure don't)we reduced rebound in the rear and voila understeer was gone .I would have still been trying to fix the end that wasn't working !!
I really love the fact that it's just me and my inputs out there and I think your suggestion to try and find more speed is exactly right thanks HOM

If it needs to be street legal then a 3.8rs or a 4.0 if you can afford it, otherwise just keep the 6.
For track only any clean cup would do and it will be a real upgrade with new driving challenges.

If you are happy with what you've done with the 996 up until now, keep it, but have Alex do a Sharkwerks 3.9.

keep 996 and go straight to a 991GT3. (a sweet 996GT3 is a keeper)

the 997 series of the GT3 will only give you what you experienced in the 996GT3.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of your options. I owned pretty much all of them at one time or another, the .2RS is the quickest and feels great and sounds great. I actually sold my .2 RS (my second one) to get an older "slower" car so that the driver could improve his skill and rely less on a great car......now I just have a really good track car with the same slow driver.

Although I must say I loved my 04 GT3.

THAT was exactly what got me sweating. The dishonor of an automatic, with a 90's era gear indicator to remind you EVERY TIME you drive it. At least Fiats do it subtly and just show a digital readout of the current gear...

PAG talks about emotion in its marketing. But emotions are all about little things adding up to something bigger than the individual bits. This darn set of PRND lights belongs to a 90's tiptronic and is SO LAST CENTURY... it's a bucket of ice...

HOM,

You still streeting your car?

Keep the 6-3... there's still a lot you can do to mimic a 6 cup. Solid links, solid mounts, regear/R&P, containment seat/cage, strip interior... and add AERO. Setup with a cup wing will take the game to another level.

But you can't street it. If you're concerned about engine age then I'd jump into a 7.2RS and observe the 991-3 progress.

I think you would seriously miss the stick in the 991-3. But you would be faaaaast...
