3rd radiator kit for the 987.2 is $399 from Suncoast - and was considered a DIY by the croc folks. X51 not required. I would suspect something simmiler will arrive for the new Caymans.

Yep, .2 owners traded out of these so long ago, they forget just how fast they still are. Certainly faster than a Cayman S, and no more expensive to maintain.
I'm actually in the market to buy another .1RS for street only driving, bone stock with comfy seats. For the price of just a little more than a .2RS, you can have (2) .1's.

The 7:55 Lap Time is the official Porsche time, compared to the 8:06 lap from the 987.2 Cayman S. We can guess that SportAuto might be capable to extract a 7:59 lap out of the new Cayman S, on crappy PZero tires, this is impressive for a 325Hp car.

Shocking Fact: The 2014 Cayman body is 40% stiffer than the Cayman 987.2, and 100% stiffer than the new 2013 981 Boxster !!!

Anyway, the 997.2RS was tested at 7:33..that about half a minute difference...this you can feel for sure.
Nevertheless, the new Cayman would also be my "new" Porsche..

Absolutely Love/Loved the RS but the thought of continuing to track a $100K plus car, along with the potential C/L issue and associated cost was always in the back of my mind. Drove the RS to dealer this morning...my car is already sold. New buyer to pick up tomorrow...Amazing.

No issues.
GT3's were recalled for a defective part. These failed and caused crashes. Porsche replaced 510? Cars.
Some failed due to over torquing, wrong size rotors and or ill fitting wheels.
Before that Porsche recalled all nuts because they lacked torque specs and advised an increase in torque when mounting the wheel for track use.
Some think they are a hassle because you have to grease them.
If you read these pages it should be easy to deal with them.
I like them. If you don't track they last forever, if you track hard and a lot they time out like CUP cars and 5 lug cars.
They offer no benefit over 5 lug, so many are frustrated to learn something new, have to buy special wheels, tools etc.
I've never seen first hand that an RS CL failed and only read about one observation from a first hand witness.
My first RS had 18kmiles, many hard Sebring miles. No issues, car still running Sebring without issues at 25k miles.

thanks for the explanation.. just realized that C/L meant center lock... tough being a newbie asking newbie questions, so much easier being a Ducati "expert" and teaching others. oh well, that's life LOL. ;-D.
thanks again.
thanks again.

So many opinions, this is great reading. I love my 6gt3, which I bought in December. I'm still very much learning it as it is a driver car; manual, no traction, no stability, no nothing but ABS. I may not be the fastest out there but when I get it right, what a feeling.

what do you guys see in cayman? it is more expensive to build up than lotus and much more expensive than e46 based racer yet runs about same... i agree bgb or similar based project cars based on cayman r and GTS uptuned 450hp DFI motor are indeed in different category but a standard croc is, well, it is a good car and drives incredibly well but not so special, really, and not so light either.
congrats, nevertheless, by no means i want to doubt your decision, just genuinely curious, that's all.

The main thing they bring to the table is the balance. Mid engine. It is what the 911 wants to be.

They drive themselves im told ....... Great confidence. Worthy of tuning in terms of brakes, suspension and power.

if you put a big motor in there, and get it all dialed in, my 4.0 will be dumped.
everything being equal, 911 will be demolisehd by cayman. this is why it's handicapped. i say this as a owner of more than 50 911's variants bn my father and i.

Just for reference I was looking up Ring times:
2014 Cayman S = 7.55
03 911 GT3 = 7.54
Ferrari 360 = 7.56
02 Z06 = 7.56
Hockenheim:
2014 Cayman S = 1.12
2007 GT3 = 1.117
2008 Carerra S = 1.134
GT3 RS = 1.095
991 S = 1.104
That is pretty impressive IMHO.

I think Porsche did a great job with the new Cayman, it's a beautiful car and looks like the performance is also increased.
I just went thru Porsche car configurator and the car came up to 87K with options. WTH ????
