congrats, nevertheless, by no means i want to doubt your decision, just genuinely curious, that's all.
My interest may be different than OP, but the Interseries car was an attractive way to get into racing, and something my RS could not do the way it was set up. Guess I could have built the RS out to that capability, or gotten another 911 derivative that was set up for that but the car I wound up with was at the right place at the right time. And largely turn key. No regrets so far. Lots of fun.

I don't recommend the 06-08 Cayman because it is fragile. Many of the problems in the 1999-2008 Cayman/Boxster were resolved with the 2009+ cars.

With the 2009+ cars, no more engine failures, power steering failures, oil ingestion, engine running dry on heavy lateral loads. The transmission is stronger. However, brakes and engine still overheat, but so do the 997 and 991, until you install a 3rd radiator and brake cooling.

The 2013+ cars got bigger brakes, 350mm all around, so with cooling ducts, these brakes should be fine. The car still needs the 3rd radiator. Essentially, a 2013+ Boxster/Cayman S is ready for track days, except the 3rd radiator, brake cooling ducts, track brake fluid, and track pads. This is a track-day ready car in my opinion.

Tested by SportAuto, these are the lap times

Nurburgring:
981 Boxster S PDK 8:04
987.2 Cayman R PDK 8:10
987.2 Cayman S PDK 8:17
987.1 Cayman S 8:25

Hockemheim:
981 Boxster S PDK 1:13.90
987.2 Cayman R PDK 1:12.40
987.2 Cayman S PDK 1:14.20
987.1 Cayman S 1:15.90

I have no doubt that the 981 Cayman S is going to beat the 981 Boxster S at the Ring.

It is available with a manual transmission.

All good points. I'm going to check into 3rd radiator. I recall seeing that the new Cayman S with PDK did a 7.55 at the Ring. That is faster than my old 08 3.8 L 997 S.

3.8l cayman could be great but still 100k. Too close to 991 with warranty. Try Corvette, maybe try old 911 racing. see how GT3 does, wait for the new RS, in the meanwhile try not to hit wall in 4.0. Got it.

I'm going to need time at the track the coming years.
More power would be nice. John at BGB thinks power (325 hp) on the new car is understated, since it now breathes through both nostrils among other things. He told me that with exhaust, intake and flash that it would reliably put out 350+ hp since the same 3.4L in the 991 puts out 350hp and is the same engine. Sounds good to me. Can't wait to learn more.

Curious, what is the market for the RS? Trade value? Dealer Retail?

The thing is that you need t x51 to get the 3rd radiator pushing the car too close to a gt3 just to get a manual. I seriously need to track a 991gt3 PDK to see if I can learn to left foot brake and can learn to like it while we find out of its track worthy and also must test drive a GT2 before the RS arrives..

The 3.8 Cayman with 3rd radiator and 991 s brakes, manual and the right seats is 100k, but no real warranty, no resale value and still no real track suspension.

That is the car the factory should build and now it's easier and cheaper then ever for them. Should be a Cayman GT3 wannabe for 100k, with the 991 GT3 at 130k that should be delta enough in HP and $$$. I drove the Caymen and thinks is looks and drives great! At 6'4" I fit fine too!! Just angers me to see Porsche hold back a cheap and easy 100HP...

Still we are talking $$ here. Spec out a nice Caymen and stock, without seat it's quickly 75/80k with 325 HP. Weight is awesome at 3000lbs and I'm sure it will be fun. But that's more than a loaded up C7 Corvette with more power and tq than a GT3.

If you spec it like a Cayman its 57k. And apples to apples a year less warranty, but a year longer on the drive train.

It may be ugly (think ok) crappy dealer experience and it might self destruct on the first session, but on paper it has all the right ingredients, right down to the ventilated competition harness ready seats.

I'm very excited about his race proved Daytona special! John knows what he's doing.

Hi KBS,

Please enjoy your new Cayman, but I'm not sure if I should congrats you as I have yet to meet anyone who do not regret selling their GT3/RS.

I don't think I will ever sell mine as there is absolutely nothing out there that I want to replace it with. Maybe except the 4.0 but I cannot justify its price.

The 7:55 Lap Time is the official Porsche time, compared to the 8:06 lap from the 987.2 Cayman S. We can guess that SportAuto might be capable to extract a 7:59 lap out of the new Cayman S, on crappy PZero tires, this is impressive for a 325Hp car.

Here is the link to the article

Shocking Fact: The 2014 Cayman body is 40% stiffer than the Cayman 987.2, and 100% stiffer than the new 2013 981 Boxster !!!

Very, very good! Traded mine in the morning, they had already sold the car by late afternoon to someone that had heard about through our local PCA club. Lets just say my trade value was substantially more than I paid for the car originally as a second owner.

Yep, you sure know your stuff. I did slightly better on trade. I think the market is at or near it's peak right now.

Mooty boy, that's not the market that's the low average.

Market is $5k up, and high average $10k up.

Funny how a year ago, same cars were $20k cheaper, while being newer.

But this is nothing compared to the 4.0RS appreciation (and it doesn't stop).
