found my sticking clutch was OEM floor mat- it had moved out of align. Made pedal stick down when lift off the pedal and also made a step when pushing down especial when starting and the pedal has to be fully down to engage the starter.

Has happened twice now, quick fix is to rip out the mat and throw it into the passenger side and then refit later correctly.

I would never guess the carpet could do it as it feels very mechanical i.e something solid or metal!!

Yes. It was some small little piece that has a spring in it. I have no idea what it's called. As it wears, heat affects its operation.

Within transmission or sits under clutch pedal?

996 version of under pedal?

Mine is doing it when cold occasionally then works ok after pulling it up with foot a couple of times. Makes a mechanical sound when pulling back up.

You may look into the clutch spring. That happened to me. That took care of it. Mike
