I always do my own washing and detailing on my car ( have placed at concours before) and just this particular time it was a day where the sun came out and it was super nice and I was running errands so I wanted to have the car washed nicely while I was out. Definitely lesson learned in if you want it done right, do it yourself.

As for using my insurance to go after them, I have a 1000 deductible so it would cost me more to use insurance then to attempt to get them to pay a 50/50 split to replace what needs to be replaced. The person replacing the film is not keatley doing the work, its someone they contract out to, which I have seen his work and while its not Premier, the work is very good.

If someone dinged your car in the parking lot, you would be in the same shoes. I would suggest meeting face to face with the owner and trying to compromise - even if it means biting your lip and shaking the guy's hand. Often times it's better to take the high road.

It sounds from what the OP has posted that this is not a guy to be reasoned with on a interpersonal basis. If the distance of a telephone conversation still provokes him to accuse the OP of trying to grift him into getting new film (rather than admitting he doesn't make it a practice to advise his customers with paint protection that there have been incidents in the past a.k.a. owning up to his share of the blame) then he's definitely not a level-headed guy. Accusing a customer of being dishonest is not the practice of a business person who has any respect for his customers. It's always the other guy's fault with this type of shop owner.

A face to face establishing of facts would probably go down like this: the guy never owns up to failing to advise his client of the past problems, probably says the issue isn't his detergents but the OP's age-compromised plastic, refuses any other culpability in absolute and even the slightest challenging of any of the these points get the guy hot under the collar in an instant... at which point he tells the OP that he's not going to be scammed into paying for some guy's already 'defective' film even though this film was working perfectly fine when the OP drove into his shop.

p.s.
bmwtye, if you do go 50/50 through a third party installer, don't drop the car off until the shop owner's check has cleared or the installer has agreed ahead of time to only charge you for your end. Waiting for re-imbursement could leave you holding the bag if all you have is a verbal agreement.

I had this with when my M5 was painted; shop scratched both head lights badly, when I point this out they said the headlamps had some light stone chips so they weren't perfect and wouldn't do anything about the damage they inflicted!!?? Turned into a verbal battle of wills and very heated. Needless to say I will never go back! Some shops just don't get customer service and the old adage 'the customer is always right'.

The shop may have got bitten in the past but you can't do future business on that premiss.

If he refuses to come to an amicable solution which it sounds like he's unwilling to do. Go old-school on him. Make a large sign, that says something along the lines of "Keatley damaged my car and refuses to fix it" then sit on his sidewalk right in front of his business. As long as you're on the sidewalk, you are not trespassing and under the first amendment free to warn other customers. When people drive up hopefully they ask what happened and you can tell them or even show them. I bet he comes out and yells at you, be sure to capture it by videoing with your iphone/smartphone. He'll probably make some threats to call the police which is fine, infact, offer to call them for him since you are well within your rights to do what you are doing. Maybe then, he'll finally just want to be rinsed of the headache and agree to your terms, just to get rid of you. Then get it in writing. I'm assuming you have weekends off, so just set aside 2 or 3 hours on a Saturday which is probably his busiest time too Good luck!

don't laugh, and you've got nothing to lose, but if it's hazing, try to expose the hazed areas to a heat gun. Gradually heat those areas until the hazing disappears.

seriously.

btw, if it does NOT disappear, then I recommend any of the other suggestions above that involve telling somebody to F off.

Sorry to hear about this issue. We have customers who uses them and have not had any issues. Hope there can be a peaceful resolution to this.

You could also try something like - http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product_detail.do?q=4596

Worth a shot. I had some luck with it removing stains on my clear bra, and it's not new.

I actually called you guys right after talking to the owner to get your opinion on if what he was saying about the film makes him not responsible at all. And as expected, you guys told me he should be responsible for replacing it. And you also thought it wasnt a good idea that they took and orbital and plastic polish to my clear film to try and buff the damage away.

Definitely not recommended to polish film without knowing what type of film is on the car
