Yes I've got grill screens installed, but not only would plate mounted there obstruct cooling some, I'm guessing the plate would probably still rattle around and nick paint, etc.

I have stopped drilling holes in the front and rear bumpers of my cars a long time ago. Instead I use double-sided mounting squares from 3M. Just make sure to degrease the area so they stick well. It has never failed me on any of my cars. However, I'm not sure how it will look on the front of a 911, I don't know if the shape of the bumper lends itself to using the squares ...
These are the ones I use on my RS rear bumper (no front plate mounted):

Which kit allows the plate assembly to be easily mounted and removed without tools? Seems like some of the pictured kits wouldn't allow the plate assembly to spin on/off. Or is there another way of taking it apart?
My thinking is that if (really "when") I get stopped I can feign forgetfulness. "Oh, I was a a car show and forgot to reinstall when I was leaving. Let me jump out and provide instant compliance....Sir."
Not a reliable protection strategy, but better than not even having the plate on hand. Would also be easy to pop it on if driving to a high enforcement area of some kind.
