Only in Miami do you see 2 white 7.2 GT3s in the parking lot of Advanced Auto Parts. Amazon might be better. shipped to your door and no tax for $52 a case.
Ive been using Motul 5w40 for the last year or so. Saw some GT3 race teams at Sebring using it and it's Porsche approved. Also saw GT3 race teams using Total too. Didn't see any Mobil 1 in the pits.
the blackstone anaylsis are a good measure of the life left in your oil, not the life left in your engine. here's a case where the engine bearings were on the verge of catastrophic failure and the analysis came back showing no signs of accelerated engine wear (not that it could've picked up these signs too well)
USC my shop uses torco sr5gdl 5w-40 in all the street/track gt cars they do and sr5r in the cup cars. I did an oil change sr5gdl to give it a shot and ran it on track all weekend pretty hard. It was only mid 60s but car ran cool and strong. It also runs quieter than with m1. Basically they see valve guide wear on these engines (sharkwerks has said same) and with the torco they see that diminished quite a bit. These guys have several gt engine builds going on at any point in time so I like to think they know the engines. They also said they can run the oil longer than m1 under track conditions based on oil analysis they have done comparing the oils . About 2x m1 if I recall.

Interesting...I have my oil changed every 6 track days. How often do you have yours changed?
Which one of these is the one that you are referring to?
Its the SR-5 GDL 5w-40, I think retail is 19.50 per liter. BBI sells it at the shop locally. Yeah, it's not cheap.
You can use the SR5-R also, but it has a higher additive content that isn't quite as friendly to our cats (supposedly, but don't quote me). http://www.torcousa.com/torco_product/sr-5.html
I need to ask BBI on Monday, having car checked out after my track weekend and before next one, I'll find out what they recommend as far as track time/miles Torco vs. M1 based on their experience.
Again, I'm not an oil expert or advocate one way or another, I've used M1 for years in all my cars. So far pleased with the way Torco is performing, car running smooth, cool, and quiet. I'm going to be doing an oil analysis on the next fill.
I personally haven't detected any oil consumption during the almost 10 years of owning my GT3
Doing the 5W-50 change this afternoon.
That little oil filter stem o-ring costs almost $12 at the dealer, not much cheaper online. I don't change it every year, curious to see if it's showing any signs of swelling or brittleness.
As I've stated many times, for South FL weather the 5W-50 is an excellent choice, and the Mobil is Porsche approved. Strangely, the Castrol 5W-50 isn't-
If one wants a more robust oil with high levels of zinc, Mobil 0W-50 Racing oil is available, but probably detrimental to the cats and pretty expensive. The 5W-50 at Napa is often on sale, less than $6 a quart-
