Beyond that an engine or major replacement is several times the cost.
but you only live once.....and driving a wingless, nanny free beetle is very rewarding, you are right though a race motor in any beetle is expensive to fix when it goes boom...the air cooled are a little cheaper to rebuild than the watercooled

Somehow I out qualified all of these cars.....talk about fun trying to fend them off

No e36 m3 is even worth 20k, no matter how modded it is. With the amount of used e36 parts for sale one could easily build a solid track car quite inexpensively. some may argue with me on this but having been in the BMW community for 16 years including building an e36 and being one of the first to do the 3.2 obd1 swap, being the second test car for the stoptech bbk, I have quite a ton of experience in building these cars.

Mods are worthless unless the buyer is willing to do the same setup. And everything wears off. All wear and tear item. Doesnt matter what the seller paid for all the mods and countless hrs he spent. It is worthless unless someone pays up.

So having said that... on a virgin e36 m3... how much budget to get it decently track ready - not racing but to learn, have fun, slide around and being safe. Adequate brakes, suspension, seats.. $$??

why would anybody want to buy a virgin stock e36 when there are so many build up e36 race cars? just get whatever u like with bodywork done, cage, seats and drive it and work on it as time permits.
I would not mess up with supercharged builds, get a well sorted spec e36 car or e46 based car, look it all up and decide what class you want to run with eventually. some ppl put e46 motors into e36 tubs, there are many options. cars are great and parts are indeed much cheaper than Porsche ones.

OEM brakes are adequate. The pedal does get long as they wear and I have found PFC pads taper the least. I ran mine for 2 years with HD Bilsteins, lowering springs and bigger sways. We called her flopsy but it was a hoot to slide around. Kirk bolt in bar and seat you are ready to play. As said before a full exhaust and maybe an intake are the only worthwhile performance mods with a tune.

Disagree. A true class winning E36 race car will fetch $30k easy...

A good race car fully built is Mid-Low 20's

Depends what we are talking about when you say good race car, are you saying a class race car, or just a dedicated track car but not competitively racing.

If someone was willing to pay mid low 20s for a good race car fully built more power to them, and the seller can laugh all the way to the bank. You can build a good race car for less than that.

I guess it just comes down to how bad someone wants someone's particular build, because in the BMW world, especially the e36 world, these cars aren't worth anything anymore and no one even wants to pay 15k for an excellent dedicated track car. Even when I sold my JRZs , they went for a lot less than what JRZs go for on the used Porsche market, again because no one wants to spend that money I. The e36 world.

Agreed the BMW Market is a different animal as compared to P-Car...

I'm talking about a competitive E36 for BMW IP or NASA GTS, SCCA.
Race Diff, JRZ RS, Proper welded cage, All Safety, Aero, Mounts, Engine n Tune (remember competitive). Spares (3 sets of wheels),

Agreed dedicated Track Car all day long @ $15k.
