5 TO 6?? My first set may last 3. They must be defective

Even my NITTO NT-01s were dead after that 3 day Reno adventure.

Sure it wasn't the old Trofeo? The R lasts longer. Although admittedly they give up their best after the 3rd day and they really don't like ambient temps over 75F

Trofeo R

I ran sport cups for a few years, and in one day the Trofeos were 3 seconds a lap faster at VIR. Kid you not. I know the track well btw so it wasnt a case of knowledge rather that tire gave so much more confidence to push. Only have one day on them so can't comment on wear yet. MUCH better than MPSC.

Would love to try a set of Trofeo Rs but at over us$3600 here in Oz, I can think of better ways to blow money than on tyres that may last 1-2 track days... Maybe one day if I win the lotto, hey Shame...

Interested to hear about wear characteristics. Since it's molded to 10/32", I'm hoping that they last twice as long as the current offerings of OE DOT R-comps. If the wear is reasonable, this could be my birthday-gift-to-myself splurge this year.

Tirerack shows two different numbers for tread depth on the Dunlop Sport Maxx Race, 8/32 and 10/32. The tire description reads 8 and the spec sheet 10. Fact is the depth is 8/32.

I've found that with r-comp tyres in particular, they heat cycle out and lose heaps of performance well before they wear down... I've tossed two sets of MPSCs (approx 5-6/32 depth new) before they've hit indicators because the heat cycles incurred with street use have made them go off for track use well before they are spent...

Thus, i think the Dunlops will HC out well before you chew them up...

Seriously considering switching to Trofeo's for my '11 RS. Any suggestions on best place to buy the tires? Doesn't look like they are available at TireRack. Any help is greatly appreciated.

On a side note, was heartbreaking to see a 4.0 crash yesterday at Infineon...ruined my day.

Hope not. I guess my benchmark is the NT-01. It's a financial blunder to buy tires that not only wear quickly, but heat cycle out before cording!
