Default Wanted: 997 GT3

In process of completing the sale of my 01 TT this Friday; Im now looking for a 997 GT3. I've been seeing a few 2007 and they are asking around $78k+ while KBB is pricing excellent within $73k. Should I hold off and wait? I'm itching for some track time this summer. Suggestions?? Thanks in advance.

Buy a car that looks good to you and don't worry about the money.

There are not many great deals to be had in the gt3 market. The best one right now is probably the silver w/ gmg mods listed in the forum.

KBB is useless with GT3's.

Good cars don't sit, decide what you can spend, what car you want and be ready to buy as soon as you find it.

A tracked car can save you a lot because it comes with all the stuff you have to buy yourself later. Just do a good PPI, if it has no overrevs there is not much track wear that can affect a GT3, clutches are not wearing from track use and if you have a real bad hack that can hurt the clutch it's $2500 installed and the car likely has overrevs IMHO.

Personally if you are not picky on the particular car and i want to get it cheap I would prefer a track rat that had clear bra in the right places, no paintwork, no overrevs for less money and more track ready stuff, you will easily save the cash for replacing wear items and you are going to track it anyway.

You'll never get accurate pricing with KBB. That website is better for Honda Accords. It all depends on what you want. A low mile, great example (especially one with CPO) will set you back 80K+. If you find one for 73K it is not going to be "excellent".

As has been said, establish a budget. If the right car is out there, then it is worth the price of admission.

+1 on what everyone has said previously. A quick scan of the usual sources (Porsche, Autotrader, Cars.com) shows how limited the supply of 3.1's is and prices are not dropping off. Found mine thru 6speeder after looking for many months, so you might want to keep tabs on the forums to find what you want. That said, you have to act fast when you find one you want. And any "deals" out there are probably complete with issues. Good hunting!

Dell is right. I just picked up an 07 black .1 with 8k on the clock and paid to have it CPO'd and it was right about the figure he posted. It was at the dealer for a week. Make sure you're ready to move quick.

there's no free lunch
with GT3's you either pay NOW or you WILL pay later.
it's hell lot cheaper to pay NOW.

I hope this forum can bring me a seller, referral to a seller. I rather split with a private party the difference of what the dealer charges when they trade it in. I missed out on two so far. An excellent one on eBay for $73,100 just last weekend. Another on autotrader(2weeks too late); he ended up trading it in for $74k and now it's on eBay for $86k. I would rather give the private party 3k more. There's a private party in la jolla white on black for $83k. Anyone know the seller? Thanks...

Bingo! Sure, there are "steals" out there.....AKA "I missed out on a 73K one on eBay" but then again...do you really know the car? How do you know it was excellent? Does the person selling the car truly know? Buying from somebody that truly knows and has taken care of the car is worth the premium as you will undoubtably pay more in the long run for that "deal" that was on eBay or some dealer.

The one on eBay was a direct seller. PPI done. Older guy just getting rid of the car. Carfax was clean and dealer maintained. Sold for 73.1; I was too slow to up it at the time buzzer. So my hover point is at 73-76k. The other on eBay now for 86k was another guys vehicle who told me all the details about it. He traded it in to them for 74k two weeks ago after sitting for months at 79k with nothing but low ballers. So my range comes from two excellent vehicles as good comparables to use for my pricing. But hopefully something will come through before May.
