Default Responsible Net Worth for Owning a $100K-$150K Car?

Just wondering what others feel is a responsible nest egg one should have stashed away before entertaining ownership of a car in this price bracket?

Is this before or after your semi-monthly check?

Well I'd say if you're check to check you may not be in Porsche's target demographic lol.

I'll have to retire on the skyrocketing prices of 4.0's.

No kids, or it would be different.

to "halve" your question, consider how many people in $50-$80K Porsches are not worth $500K free and clear.

Now let's talk about what new car depreciation (hers too) represents as a % of their nest egg...

There are a lot of variables, but I don't necessarily look at current 'worth', more of what percent of your annual gross income your car purchase is. I have kept car value at around 1/3 of annual gross. So if you're making 100k, you'd get up to a 33k car using my philosophy. I think this is more aggressive than the average non-car person though.

That's an interesting question.

I think that I have covered the whole spectrum from time to time, and also visited brackets outside your poll charts too.

Not sure that logic, wise financial decisions and common sense form an undivided link with a man and his toys.

Also, one more clarification... Did you intend for the net worth values to all be positive, or is it a typographical error?

Seems to me disposable income is important too. Those kind of cars do not insure or maintain themselves.

Buying these cars is not financially responsible. But I especially think the net worth vs. car value argument is a silly one because it assumes that the other aspects of your lifestyle have to be commensurate with your choice of automobile. Stereotypes are for losers.

Yes, I think this might actually be more important a number.
