Default OT - BMW Z4 GTE launch

Well, it's here. I think its looks great, and should go like stink.

More interesting is the move to the less expensive, more customer friendly, 4.4L V8. BMW wants to start selling more GT customer cars.

I like it. Irony here is that if someone had one and brought it to a BMWCCA race they couldn't run it because it is a factory convertible.

Reminds me of this (circa 1983). GTP Mustang Probe usually lasted about three (fast) laps before the 1.7L started smoking.

Cool race car. I guess. Nothing to do with a Z4 though, I like production car based classes more. Those improve the breed.

Agreed, just a shame none of us on this side of the pond even got a chance to buy that 4.4L masterpiece of an engine.

Interesting, the motor is a derivative of the S65B44 (which is a stoked S65 in the "common" m3), called the P65.

I'd be excited if that car had anything to do with the Z4 street car. But, for some reason BMW does not have to do this anymore...

I really hope Porsche keeps it up.

No, I actually really like the M3 GTR. The E36, E46 and E92 make great looking race cars IMO. Even a widebody E30 looks awesome, even still.

This one is just plain ugly to my eyes. I don't care for the looks of the Z4/Z8 either though.

I tend to agree. I'm sure it's fast and competent, but it's not pretty....

The P65 was a flat plane crank, but the S65B44 is the same basic motor used in the new Z4 GT3/E, not flat plane. So in that regard, it's cool because atleast they are racing the same engine sold in the M3 GTS and CRT. Clearly they want to sell alot more customer cars by not running a bespoke engine.

Rumor is that BMW is going to try and send out the current M3 with a bang (similar to the 997) and they want to offer some hardcore cars to compete with Merc Black Series, so may we get the 4.4L after all. Perhaps that's how BMW got the 4.4 homologated for 2013...who knows.
